Loss of taste and smell

I'm a long time lurker, never posted before but I need help!

5 days ago I woke up without being able to smell or taste. I havent had a cold/flu, haven't had any sinus infections as far as i am aware. I thought maybe I was going to get a cold as I usually lose my tastebuds then but nothing has happened. No cold or flu, no cough or temperature, slight scratching of the throat but that comes and goes.

I Googled (yes I know!) And came across loss of taste and smell being a possible symptom of Covid19 but it's not on the "list" I've tried to contact GP incase it is (hopefully!) Just a sinus infection but cant get passed the receptionist!! She did say to go online on nhs111 but that just says to call GP...
Given the circumstances at the moment I dont want to call 111 as it's not exactly an emergency but I am worried taste and smell wont come back.

Anyone had this or know anyone that has? Can someone point me in the direction of what to do next?

I KNOW - eating so much, things I love,
just getting sad I can't taste any of it, so why aren't I just eating healthily since I'm not actually enjoying it?

Slightly strange question, but has anyone else who has had a loss of smell noticed that it came back more from one nostril than the other as it recovered?

I have loss of taste and smell day 10 now. Have been told by 111 it’s cornoa. I only called 111 as I was having tightness in my chest and was prescribed an asthma pump (I don’t have asthma) but it helped my chest within a day. I have been self isolating since lockdown and haven’t been out apart from being rushed to hospital on Monday due to appendicitis. Hope it comes back soon

Hi I tested positive last Friday only knew as I lost my sense of smell and taste very suddenly symptoms have been very mild touch wood

SocialConnection · 25/04/2020 23:38

My sense of smell went very suddenly too, immediately after a brief episode of sore roof of my mouth going up into my nose. As if my smell receptors had been sandpapered off. It's a month in now and still nothing. I couldn't even smell bleach when I cleaned the kitchen!

It’s a weird one, I can’t taste chocolate at the
Moment. Any time I eat any brand it just tastes weird in my mouth. I’m ok with other foods but trust me I love chocolate but right now can’t taste anything but yuck in my mouth. Feel fine other than that but it is weird

Leadust92 · 09/05/2020 20:16

@Chocqueen99 any difference for you? I’m 7 weeks in and sometimes I think I can taste something slightly, sometimes completely nothing. I can smell a few more things slightly but have to be really close up. Was glossing my babies nursery today and couldn’t smell that. I’ve read about pregnancy rhinitis which says you return to normal 2 weeks after delivery but I have another 19 weeks to go Shock Just wondered if you had any change before I ring the doctors and ask whether it could be this for me.. hope yours has returned!

About six weeks now with no real sense if smell. Gardening yesterday though I did get a faint scent of the lilac I was cutting, and then another faint scent of blackcurrant while making jam. Just a little, but I wonder if it's starting to come back.
