Day 7 today so I'm able to go out tomorrow, we need food. DP is still isolating but he'll have to run me in the car, he won't get out.

I'm still coughing but temp been normal since day 3. Gov says can still go out and I'm due back at work.

I'm obviously going to have tissue but I'm scared of what will happen if people see me coughing.

I cannot not go, i also need stuff for my mum.

I'm goung to get lynched

If I saw you coughing in the supermarket it would have me worrying. Phone the store you are looking at going to and maybe they can put you in who knows they could have slots available for people like yourself

Em91 · 24/03/2020 23:05

Just carefully plan what time you go, bigger super markets are starting to get more food in I went at 8am the other day and could get everything I needed all meat fruit and veg bread all fully stocked and it was way less busy as most people get there for 6am at a Tesco.

ZombieFan · 24/03/2020 23:06

Day 7 today so I'm able to go out tomorrow

Ummm no its 14 days isolation,, and then only if recovered. You cannot go out tomorrow you could kill people. Get food delivered. I cant believe you are even thinking about going out.

TheoriginalLEM · 24/03/2020 23:06

Government advice is tgat if you have a temp and or a constant cough you must self isolate for 7 days, those that live with you have to isolate for 14 days. I assume they've thought this through? It does feel a bit strange though. I've checked 111 multiple times and it hasn't changed.

OP posts:
PicsInRed · 24/03/2020 23:08

The official advice is that 7 days is sufficient if you have already had the illness and that they expect the cough to linger for some weeks.

OP, offically you are safe, no longer shedding virus. You need food. Get food quickly and don't just make eye contact..

PicsInRed · 24/03/2020 23:09

7 days if you become ill.

14 days is for exposure without becoming ill.

LittleCabbage · 24/03/2020 23:10

OP is right. From gov.uk:

"If you live with others and you are the first in the household to have symptoms of coronavirus, then you must stay at home for 7 days, but all other household members who remain well must stay at home and not leave the house for 14 days. The 14-day period starts from the day when the first person in the house became ill. See the explanatory diagram"

TheoriginalLEM · 24/03/2020 23:11

@zombiefan from 111

I checked again.

Fuck sake!

As someone said there is likely to be loads of people with on going coughs, they bloody stick. I wouldn't dream of going out if i was still feverish.

OP posts:
sleepwhenidie · 24/03/2020 23:11

Zombie it’s 7 days and if you are well you can leave, cough can linger but isn’t contagious. Everyone else is 14 days, symptom free, if you get symptoms within those 14 days then that starts your 7 day period...so if you show symptoms on day 3 you can go out on day 10. If you show symptoms on day 12 then you will have self isolated for 19 days by the time you can go out.

dontaskformedicaladviceonmn · 24/03/2020 23:13

Ummm no its 14 days isolation,
7 days if you have a cough, 14 days for other family members to see if they develop symptoms.

NHS website

How long to self-isolate

If you have symptoms

If you have symptoms of coronavirus, you'll need to self-isolate for 7 days

After 7 days:

if you do not have a high temperature, you do not need to self-isolate

if you live alone and you have symptoms of coronavirus illness (COVID-19), however mild, stay at home for 7 days from when your symptoms started. (The ending isolation section below has more information)

Time for this graphic again! She can go out tomorrow if it has been 7 days.

Still coughing but we need food
cannotfindanickname · 24/03/2020 23:21

i have been coughing for over 3 weeks now, and i do worry what people think of me every time i leave the house

MigginsMrs · 24/03/2020 23:23

*7 days if you become ill.

14 days is for exposure without becoming ill.*

This. It would be better if you could just go yourself but if you have no symptoms other than the cough you can go. Tough shite if people “panic” if you cough, the cough could last for weeks, it doesn’t mean you’re contagious

amandalives · 24/03/2020 23:25

You should use alcohol gel when you get out the car to make sure you have clean hands before touching things in the shop. I would wear a mask as it will go some way in containing your saliva if you have to cough, yes they're not perfect but I do think better than openly coughing.

Rosebel · 25/03/2020 00:08

The cough can last for several weeks apparently. As long as your temperature is normal and you've isolated for 7 days you'll be fine.

rainbowunicorn · 25/03/2020 00:16

People really need to read the guidlines that are in place for coming out of isolation. The OP is correct in that they can go about their daily business after 7 days. The cough can continue for weeks as with any other virus that has a cough as a symptom. They will not be shedding the virus at this point. The guidlines are at the following link and are updated daily. www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-stay-at-home-guidance/stay-at-home-guidance-for-households-with-possible-coronavirus-covid-19-infection
It really isn't helpful to come on spouting what you think. The vast majority that I have read on this board is wrong, usually complete nonsense that does nothing to help anyone.
The actual facts as set out by the government and the medical community is what is important.

ZombieFan · 25/03/2020 00:52

7 days isolation is if you live ALONE. If you live with anyone else you ALL have to isolate for 14 days. There is no guarantee you cant be reinfected.

I really cant believe someone with symptoms would go out whilst they are still coughing. It could be deadly for other people. Just get food delivered.

GnomicGnu · 25/03/2020 04:31

@ZombieFan

You are posting rubbish.

The guidelines are very clear, OP can stop self isolating after 7 days. The cough can last for weeks.

rottiemum88 · 25/03/2020 04:44

Just get food delivered.

Oh if only it were that simple Hmm Even the new Morrison's boxes are completely sold out here

HelloBolloxMyOldFriend · 25/03/2020 05:14

Hoping someone lives close by OP and can get them the things they need.

Meredithgrey1 · 25/03/2020 05:59

Both points you've made there are not true.

From Gov guidelines:

"if you live with others and you are the first in the household to have symptoms of coronavirus, then you must stay at home for 7 days,"

And

"The cough may persist for several weeks in some people, despite the coronavirus infection having cleared. A persistent cough alone does not mean someone must continue to self-isolate for more than 7 days."

Tennis82 · 25/03/2020 06:33
  1. If you live in a house with more than one person then you all HAVE to self isolate for 14 days if one of you has symptoms.
  1. If anyone is self isolated because someone in the house is unwell or displaying symptoms then it is crucial that you stay at home. It is not acceptable for your partner to drive you to a supermarket whilst self isolating.

Its people like you who refuse to follow the rules, who will make this a much longer and unsafe process. You need to contact your manager, inform them that you've got symptoms (you are not symptom free) and you must isolate for a further 7 days at least.

Your mom, or you on your mom's behalf, phone Sainsburys, have her register as a vulnerable person and they can allocate delivery slots. You can do the online order on her behalf and have it delivered to her house and her carers can help put it away.

You MUST follow the legislation. You haven't HAD symptoms, you still HAVE symptoms. You cannot leave the house. I can't stress how important this is!!!!!!!!

Tennis82 · 25/03/2020 06:41

I've had symptoms for more than 3 weeks and was blue lighted to ED last week. I live alone and was still told that I must self isolate until I am symptom free.

NerrSnerr · 25/03/2020 06:43

@ZombieFan did you look at the picture from Public Health England that @LambriniSocialist put up? The OP is right with the 7 days.

The last thing a pandemic like this needs is people posting nonsense without actually reading the guidelines.
