Do you think the situation will impact your fitness?

I’m a runner - so that’s ok
But I’m missing studio yoga and swimming

I don’t think it will impact my fitness as I can run and do home workouts but I do think my flexibility may suffer slightly as I don’t have access to a hot yoga studio.

How’s others feeling.... home work outs or not in the mood unless a proper gym class?

I’m sore after two morning of Joe Wicks so it’ll probably improve mine! I usually walk about 18k steps a day so I’m struggling with not being able to do that (we are self isolating) but in terms of overall fitness I guess mine will probably stay about the same. Jay doing different stuff now.

AliciaWhiskers · 24/03/2020 21:35

*just not Jay

SpyApp · 24/03/2020 21:36

Yes. My knees and pelvis don't cope with high impact stuff like running any more so I walk a lot instead. More than 2 hours most days. Also yoga's not on and that'll really take its toll on my physical and mental health. I'm not good at online stuff.

cologne4711 · 24/03/2020 21:37

Yes definitely. I just need to try to avoid getting fat. I suspect I am getting to the age where once you put it on, you can't get rid of it again.

IceKitten · 24/03/2020 21:38

It's been good for mine - I've been running five of the last six days, which is unheard of for me!

Namechangervaver · 24/03/2020 21:38

Two people I have spoken to today have started going out for a daily walk when they didn't used to. "I went out for my one session of exercise today". In other words, saw it as an instruction to start going out once a day to exercise. Succeeded where Mr Motivator and the NHS failed, FFS 🤦‍♂️

Canyoutellilikrchocolate · 24/03/2020 21:41

For me the issue is time as DH and I are both trying to do our jobs from home while looking after a toddler. We have to tag team so little time left for exercise.
If I didn’t have a toddler I’d be on my exercise bike loads

Paintforkitchen · 24/03/2020 21:42

Yes. I normally walk about 15000 steps a day, plus run twice a week and swim 2-3 tines a week. I’m really missing swimming and I just can’t get the steps in as obviously I’m now in the house all day. I will continue to run when I can but it’s not the same as being active all through the day.

NannyR · 24/03/2020 21:42

Definitely, I usually walk 4-5 miles a day with school runs and playgroup etc and a 7-10 mile hike on a weekend. Barely got 2000 steps today.

w00dlander · 24/03/2020 21:44

I think mine will improve as I'm now able to go for a morning run as my one thing every other day as DH will be home for childcare which he's not normally.

I'm always too tied to do it in the evening!

RedSoloCup · 24/03/2020 21:47

Yes 😟 I normally do 2-3 classes a week 3000+ metres swimming weekly and 15-20k walking daily. Have done Joe Wickes and managed to walk 10k a day. I also have an active job which I miss.

roarfeckingroar · 24/03/2020 21:49

I'm missing hot yoga too but I'm doing regular yoga at home and still walking a fair bit. Aiming to keep fitness up.

PositiveLife · 24/03/2020 21:53

Yes, I normally do 2-3 climbing sessions a week, an aerial class per week plus caving/wild swimming/gym/walking ad-hoc.

It's going to massively affect my strength and my mental health.

Usernamealreadyexists · 24/03/2020 21:53

Yep. I was doing around 3-6 hours of hot yoga a week for a year. The change in my stamina, strength, posture and general well-being has been immense. I became attached to th studio, my regular space, seeing the same faces. Will try to do online classes.

NotDisclosedToday · 24/03/2020 21:55

I expect to lose strength without the gym, but have dusted off the road bike and already done a 25 and a 30mile ride and plan to do about three per fortnight. So a loss in strength and a gain in cardio I suppose.

Mummadeeze · 24/03/2020 21:56

Yes, missing the gym. Trying hard to substitute with home videos and running outside but natural day got me to 12,000 steps because of my commute etc but yesterday I had done around 2,000 steps by the evening. Hope the lockdown doesn’t end up prohibiting running as I will be lost.

quirrels · 24/03/2020 21:58

Yes I'll be getting fitter by the day. A walk every day, I ordered an exercise bike which is coming tomorrow and my Pilates teacher is running her classes on Skype 5 days a week.
I'm exhausted just thinking about it.

inwood · 24/03/2020 21:59

My gym classes are now being run on zoom so no impact on that side of things but general walking - school run, commute, walking an hour at lunch time is bound to have an impact. My out door exercise will be walking the dog but he's old and blind and slow so that isn't going to impact much!

mineofuselessinformation · 24/03/2020 22:00

I'm very lucky in that dc2 had bought themselves a treadmill.
I'm going on it twice a day to keep up my step count, because while I'm not a fitness fanatic, I'm also aware that being stuck at home without the exercise that I regularly do is not a good thing:

mineofuselessinformation · 24/03/2020 22:02

I'm also gardening - for the sake of my mental health, plus it means I get outside.
It might not be possible for everyone; but for me it's a great release.

MinkowskisButterfly · 24/03/2020 22:03

I am shockingly unfit, , we are doing joe wickes and online ballet classes to keep dd2 occupied, playing football in the garden. I think I will be really fit by the end of this! (I normally sit on my arse at a desk and drive everywhere!)

DonnaDarko · 24/03/2020 22:07

It won't affect me much, I was already mostly sedentary aside from morning yoga and the ocassional Mr and Mrs Muscle videos (check them out)

SimonJT · 24/03/2020 22:08

Fitness no, but I am worried about how much muscle mass I will lose, I know it’s vain, but I’ve worked so hard and I had just about got to where I wanted to, so to lose that is really frustrating. I have bought quite a bit of equipment, but it’s nowhere near as good as the gym.

donariebroncorulestheworld · 24/03/2020 22:09

I've started cycling to work (keyworker), and I'm taking the DC's running in the park as our exercise session. So I'm doing more exercise already, but I'm also eating more chocolate Confused

I'm more worried about my DC's. They normally do a sports activity daily, on some days they do two, plus running around at break time at school. Our garden is really small so there's not much they can do out there. As well as keeping the safe from the virus I want to keep them fit and healthy. But it's going to be hard.

AFireInJuly · 24/03/2020 22:11

For those who miss yoga, www.glo.com is great. There are thousands of classes, all different types of yoga. It’s about £15 per month and you can get a free trial. I’ve been using it nearly every day.

Also using Fitness Blender for cardio.
