Furloughed while in self isolation

I saw Martin Lewis briefly state that if an employee had to self isolate, or was unable to work due to child care, then they would be entitled to the 80% pay grant. Trouble is, I can’t fjnd anything online about it, and my employer is also unsure. I’m In the vulnerable category not shielded.

I thought it applied to the businesses who would have to otherwise make the employees redundant due to lack of trading. You don't fall into that category.

I might be wrong as the info is so sketchy.

We do fall in to that category sadly, we were instructed to close last week. Most employees have been given the opportunity to be furloughed, but there’s a small minority of us who were told we had to take sick leave - don’t earn enough to qualify for SSP Sad

You should be entitled then. Not sure how long it will take to come into effect.

I honestly don't understand when the government are giving the money. I think my company is at risk. I'm hearing of a lot of companies being forced to take holiday or go unpaid but by all accounts they can't claim the money. If we aren't made redundant we will have to do that but then who will the Gov money actually help?

There is information here

www.businesssupport.gov.uk/coronavirus-business-support/

Under Coronavirus job retention scheme. It's for your employer to decide to do this.

However it's not up and running yet, hoping to have it done by end of April.

I'm wondering if the request for business to close, as opposed to those forced to close, is a get out clause for Gov.uk to not pay those not forced to close iykwim.

Atm details are non existent, no scheme to pay employers has ever been set up or used before. HMRC systems are notoriously bad at the best of times (with years of planning) so I can well imagine this houng tits up.

Bad times.

So many people are banking on this scheme and I just don't know how HMRC will deliver. At the moment it's looking like the scheme will run for 3 months, that needs to be revised as so many people will still be in the shit 3 months down the line.

Hopefully today we will hear about the self employed scheme which will be put into place.
