India in lockdown

I read India is to go into lockdown for 21 days. I'm unsure how this will work, says they have not to leave their home at all. It is such a highly populated country, people sleep in a.g. taxis and it is so, so crowded

i really wonder how it can manage this. How would people get food etc? I know people deliver lunch to family members on bikes etc, will they do things like that?

I worry for them, as it is so crowded and feel it will spread like wildfire despite this lockdown just due to the nature of the high population, overcrowding etc combined with poor health care..Sad

I think their pm has already had restrictions on them for a while and this is just an extension of that. My understanding is that he's been very decisive from the start.

I understand that his instructions are decisive my concerns are more in how it would work in practice given the nature of their dense population etc.

I think it depends on how many people will actually listen - just like any other country out there. There’s only so much a government can do in imposing the rules, it’s then upto general public to abide by it. Personally speaking, my parents who live there have not been out in a week and they will continue to do so for the next 3 weeks. All of my friends will do the same as will all of my relatives, they will not go out unless it’s essential. I’ll say one thing though - I was told by my parents this morning that the police are ensuring everyone stays home where we live. No stores are open and all markets are closed. Public transport has been reduced as well. I suspect it’s the same in most of the other states too.

I really feel for them, hope this works. I understand they don't have that many cases so far.

My colleague is in India on holiday currently, she was supposed to be flying back tomorrow but they stopped flights for this week. I'm guessing she is going to be stuck there for the foreseeable

They have around 400 cases from memory - which is massively low for a country that size. I am glad the PM has done this early on to prevent spread , if anything, it shows he understands that the only way we can prevent spread in a densely sized country is to make people practice social distancing. It is going to be challenging of course but if there’s anyone who can make a country go into lockdown, it is him.

I wonder how much testing has been done, like here (severe cases) or less severe...wonder how much more is out there. Hopefully it is less than more..
