What do we do about insurance?

xandersmom2 · 24/03/2020 12:25

I don't see that on the .gov website. They're only extending Vehicle Approval Tests which is not the same thing. Website currently says MOT 'under consideration'.

I'm in the same situation as OP so watching closely

MrsL2016 · 24/03/2020 12:25

Can you provide a link @lubeybooby? I can only find info on buses, lorries and trailers for the 3 month extension. Garages are one of the exempt businesses so you should be able to book in somewhere for your MOT OP and it will be classed as an essential journey. I have even seen posts from some garages doing contactless collections and drop off of your car.

TheGreatWave · 24/03/2020 12:26

The only thing I can see about the three months extension is for heavy goods vehicles ore the initial test if a vehicle has been modified. Nothing in relation to privately owned cars.

Omg I’ve got 3 teens, an oap and 2x key worker jobs between us. Shit, shit, shit.

@lubeybooby?
Really? I've just checked the .gov websites and cannot find where it states that.

I understand it has been extended for lorries but can't find anything about cars. Can you post a link to it?

TheGreatWave · 24/03/2020 12:27

X-posted

CheriLittlebottom · 24/03/2020 12:31

I'd drive it without, OP, so long as you think it's ok. If you know it was going to need new brakes obviously don't, but if you've maintained it over the past year it isn't going to become suddenly dangerous overnight. The police have got bigger things to worry about right now.

SisterSist3r · 24/03/2020 12:39

It might make insurance invalid, can’t do that.

Try a different garage if one is near as garages are allowed to open. The mot for cars is under review.

namechangemania · 24/03/2020 12:41

I just got my MOT today

Iwasjustinthemiddleofadream · 24/03/2020 20:16

Got my car mot today too. You need to find somewhere else!

No they are not.

OP, you just call another garage.

playthestation · 24/03/2020 20:21

Hmm

Don't do that.

ShellieEllie · 24/03/2020 20:22

Lots of garages have remained open - just call another
