Tips from a Diagnosed OCD Sufferer under MH services

I have diagnosed OCD, contamination fear is the worst part I am being treated.

I have lived for six years with this fear and these are some things I do to keep safe just generally. I have also felt unwell this week and had a cough so isolated completely in a separate room.

Switch light switches on and off with your elbow

As the person with the cough I only used the tap in the bath to hand wash and clean my teeth. I also had separate toothpaste. I would advise keeping toothbrushes separate at the moment anyway.

Dry your hands on the towel you dry yourself with, we have done away with communal hand towels.

Do not pass phones between each other

One person uses the tv control

I open and close doors using my feet often anyway so it’s my norm.

Now these measures may be extreme, I live with them all the time. Maybe someone will call me out on this thread and give me some abuse. But at a time when touching surfaces is an actual issue I’m just relaying how I live.

The other thing with constant hand washing is it obviously
can make them sore. When I do anything I do stuff in blocks to limit hand washing. So for instance I would do all my cleaning with the jobs increasing in what I consider grubbiness levels and wash hands at the end. By having clean hands I could then prepare food.

The way I live is very difficult, people are being asked to be very careful touching stuff so I’m just relaying how I live on a daily basis with minimal touching.
