My work have decided that despite the statement yesterday that we still need to go into work.

My job entails travelling to different sites in the hospitality trade, and assisting with stock controls. This week has been manic with lots of sites wanting stock valuation for whats on site at point of closing. So we are busy. However it is mot essential. At all. But we have about 200 enployers travelling to different sites across the uk, and my employer has said that we dont need to stay home because we cant work from home.

How would you interprate the statement last night? Should we be getting told to stay home or are my work entitled to get us to go to work?

Yes you should be staying home. It is not essential work. The rule work from home if possible was for social distancing. This is lockdown.

He never stated you can only go to work if it’s essential work or a key worker. He said he was shutting hospitality and retail to the public, he said you can go to work if your job absolutely cannot be done from home.

As such, your company is correct.

Bluntness, my employers decided at 8am this morning that we were to shut as our work was not essential. Im now home and will be for at least a month.

That was your companies decisions to make though.

What bluntness is saying, is that businesses are not obliged to shut down because they are non essential. If they wanted to remain open and observe social distancing, they can and you would need to go.

Unless your job can be done from home. In which case, they can stay open, but you work from home.
