My PIL are in their 80's with health problems. I am worried about them going shopping and there are no delivery slots available. I live 1 hour away and would like to buy food and leave it outside their door so they don't have to go out. Essential travel or not??

You can go out for care needs eg shopping for a vulnerable person so yes.

My dh's parents are only a short drive away. We set them up as best we could with food in advance but miraculously have a food delivery tomorrow including stuff for them. Dh plans to take it over because they count as vulnerable people. Until he is told not to.

Yes that is essential travel, although it would be far better if they can get someone more local to help.look on FB in their area to get more information.

If you have to do it, shop somewhere local to you and not in their local shop as it reduces the risk of the virus spreading over distance.

Yes. Perfectly acceptable as you won’t even come into contact with them.

Thanks - I was doubting myself there! I will buy local to me - that's a good point. They won't accept help from their local area, as they don't see themselves as vulnerable, but they will stay inside if we sort them out with food. MIL may be in the at risk group and receive a letter this week anyway, in which case I think food will be sorted out for them, but if not then I'll deliver it to try to keep them safe.
