Are any government agencies available for women and children who are now locked down with abusive men?

It will be the usual channels. Police, womens aid, SS etc.

Our lax stance on all these things is coming home to roost.

Kids left with families, where they should have been removed. Domestic abusers allowed to get away with it by authorities.

All this crap, will huegley impact people going forward. Successive governments havent done enough.

I have never been more grateful that I left abusive exh, my heart breaks for anyone stuck in this situation.

Oh god, I have to isolate myself from the realities of extremely vulnerable people at the best of times. I'm constantly thinking of the poor /impoverished who have to use food banks and have no money for their electricity meters, the homeless living on the streets and those with children living in B&Bs, then those whose homes flooded and are living in temporary accommodation and so on and so on.
People living in dire circumstances like domestic abuse, especially with children is just too much awfulness to bare. Fucking hell Sad.

Oh and that's in a 1st world country.

I work for a DV agency. We're still operating as normally as possible. Telephone support for clients in the community and we are still taking referrals for refuge places if needed. We're doing our best to ensure the safety of vulnerable victims and their children in this very challenging situation.

Are you ok OP?

PositiveVibez · 24/03/2020 07:38

Thank you Mushroom 🙏

I absolutely, 100% agree and it's sickening, isn't it?
I am deputy of a large inner city Primary school in report cases of abuse, maltreatment, neglect and DV on an almost daily bases, only to have my referrals knocked back because they "don't meet threshold". I cannot put into words how worried I am, knowing these women and children are going to be cooped up with their abusers. It's beyond wrong.

Barkingfuckingdogs · 24/03/2020 07:41

It's unbearable to think of the situation many women and children find themselves in right now, trapped indoors with no means of escape.

MushroomTree · 24/03/2020 20:59

@AnduinsGirl my experience has been similar to yours. I've lost count of the number of cases I've referred to Children's Services only to be told they don't believe there's a need for them. We of course then close the case when our support is finished and the family is on their own. Those are the ones that keep me awake at night.
