Huge electrical fault with the house this evening. Out of nowhere-10 or so plug sockets no longer work and this includes the boiler, which is hardwired.

I have an entanglement of extension leads powering main appliances- fridge etc. But biggest issue is boiler

Is it wrong to call out an electrician given state of things?

We can't isolate the trip to a single appliance so thinking the problem is more fundamental SadSad

Have you checked your trip switches?

ilovemyrednosedaymug · 23/03/2020 23:23

This would be essential work so call one out, keep your distance and clean afterwards

FuckOffCorona · 23/03/2020 23:24

You definitely need an electrician. Just be absolutely rigorous about hygiene - hand washing, disinfect door handles and surfaces before and after they leave, stay 2m away from them while they are in the house. You can’t go 3 weeks without a boiler, this counts as an emergency.

dementedpixie · 23/03/2020 23:24

There should be a main trip switch. Unplug appliances then try to reset it

StrawberryJam200 · 23/03/2020 23:24

No am sure that’s OK, although you need to think through another person entering your home, limit/cover what they touch, social distance etc. But your household does need safe working electricity, doesn’t it?

iswhois · 23/03/2020 23:30

Yeah we've tried all the switches and appliances etc. DH just took the boiler to bits as it's hardwired in and still no luck.

I'm thinking a rat has chewed through a cable

Why oh why does this have to happen now.

It will only be me at home tomorrow so I can easily limit contact.
