House removal

Is a house removal company classed as essential? Workers in and out of homes, handling and packing personal possessions? Carrying a washing machine (2 man carry) with social distancing?

My mum is moving house this week, as of this morning apparently they are still working but not sure for how long. I would have thought they should at the very least suspend non essential services like packing - homeowners can pack themselves where possible. Our plan is that packing will be done by the household and everything that can be moved outside by the household will be to minimise need for the removals guys to come in. But as you say unsure if they will be able to fully maintain social distancing for the heavier things which need 2 of them to lift.

Are you moving yourself OP or do you work for a removal company? If moving yourself would a self-drive van be a possible alternative?
