Moving house in LockDown

Hi,

We bought a house at the beginning of Feb, but it's a wreck and we've been slowly doing it up whilst still renting 5 mins drive down the road.

We have to move out of our rental at the end of April.

Does anyone know what we are allowed to do?! We go over every day to do it up - we don't encounter anyone. Will we still be allowed to do this?

Many thanks. Start safe guys xx

How done up is it - is it habitable now? If so then I would stop going out to it if possible as its non essential travel. I would have thought (although obviously it's not specifically covered by the guidance) you would be allowed to move though, it would not make sense for people to be made homeless for want of being allowed to do a short journey.

You might however find that removal companies could stop operating, since it's hard to see how they could strictly keep to social distancing whilst moving someone's house/possessions - are you able to do the move with a self-drive van if needed? The other solution (if it is habitable) is to move sooner rather than later, then you can continue with the DIY whilst living there?

I work in lettings and ARLA has issued guidance today to say that moving house is not essential and should no longer go ahead.

No idea how long this will last though.
