I imagine a portion of them will but there’s a significant portion of the population who only access their accounts physically.

Because people need access to their money in order to buy things at the pharmacy and supermarket. They need access to their accounts, not everyone uses online banking.

Not everyone banks on line or has cards.

AhoyMrBeaver · 23/03/2020 21:10

Lots of people don't have a card even, so there needs to be a way for them to access their money. Some people only have a building society account with a passbook which can only be accessed in branch.

Closing the banks is one of those things which causes total panic. Even with online and telephone banking, closing the banks is like... apocalypse style government. They wont do it.
Most people wont go in the banks. Really just the elderly or anyone who has a serious account issue but they will keep them open to help keep some sense of calm.
