broken234 · 23/03/2020 17:47

If lockdown is declared.... will I be allowed to move house?!

ShanghaiDiva · 23/03/2020 17:49

No
Bases on what I experienced in China.

broken234 · 23/03/2020 17:51

Oh.
Due to move on Thursday. 😩

Based, not based.
Depends on the rules, but I can’t see it qualifying as essential and it would be tricky to maintain social distancing.

0htooooodles · 23/03/2020 17:54

We're looking to exchange and complete next Monday! I really hope we can pull it off before anything more serious happens 😩

Treacletoots · 23/03/2020 17:54

Same boat here OP. Friday. We tried to move it forward but developer wouldn't. Praying that we don't get total country lock down :(

broken234 · 23/03/2020 18:16

I too have tried to move completion date forward but solicitor is unable to.... just waiting day to day.

justasking111 · 23/03/2020 18:18

I very much doubt it talking to a lady who had completed on Friday her solicitor said she had squeaked in.

broken234 · 23/03/2020 18:23

What would be the reason for not being able to complete? Is it not all done remotely? Clutching at a possibility to move out of rental and into a home

OP posts:
Eeyoresstickhouse · 23/03/2020 18:26

I dont think you will be moving. I think lockdown is imminent.

Hugglespuffed · 23/03/2020 18:27

I can't imagine you would be allowed. The need for removal vans, meeting to sign(?!)
The people dealing with it won't be allowed to work..a lockdown is a lock down. Only essential people to move around.
Even if you say you won't use removal people, they will probably just put a blanket no on.
Sorry to say but I don't want to get your hopes up!

Eeyoresstickhouse · 23/03/2020 18:27

@broken234 if you are in a chain you would all be in breach of contract as you would not be able to have free possession of the property you have just bought or sold. They will not let you exchange or complete if lockdown is on.

FedUpWithThisToday · 23/03/2020 18:28

I can't see why not. It can all be done without seeing people or at least being close up.

We are in the process of moving, earlier stage that you, hoping to complete in 6 ish weeks. It's a tense time, but it's in all the parties interests to move it along (estate agent needs the money at the moment, solicitors need the money, everyone in our chain wants to move asap)

If you can't complete on the exact day you want, I'm sure it'll be able to happen within a week or two of hoped fro completion date

Good luck

Raaaa · 23/03/2020 18:29

We're in the middle of trying to move house and it's all gone quiet I can't see us moving now for a few months tbh

cushioncovers · 23/03/2020 18:32

I'm in the process of moving with an estimated moving date of about 6 weeks. Not sure if it's going to happen now 🤷🏻‍♀️

broken234 · 23/03/2020 18:32

No chain. Everything has been paid and monies transferring Wednesday.

My partner moving us with his work van, leaving rental empty.

😩😩

We need movers. I think we're fucked. All my fault because I wanted DD to finish her term at school so DH is trapped in his job until 1/4. Also rental only available from 1/4 assuming that happens (all paid for and contract signed). If move doesn't happen we're fucked completely - long distance relocation from rural area to city, planned for about 5 months but only confirmed 3 months ago. If house doesn't sell so be it but if we don't we have a rental we can't use and no income.

Stupid fuckwits ruining everything!

Theloftmonster · 23/03/2020 18:52

We are still gearing up for completions this week obviously if there is total lock down it's out of our hands. If the banking system is working and solicitors are working from home, there is no reason why legal completion can't take place on Thursday @broken234 you don't have to actually move on that day.

Exchange and completion are all handled remotely, no face to face needed at all.

broken234 · 23/03/2020 18:59

So we may complete, but not be allowed to physically move? Then I'll be paying rental as well as mortgage for months.... that's not viable. This is bad times :(

applesauce1 · 23/03/2020 19:04

Same. We were meant to exchange last Friday and complete two weeks after. Solicitors have been pushing to exchange and complete on the same day. Completion has now been moved forwards to this Friday, with no date for exchange settled upon. No chain. We’re moving to my parents’ house (they’re isolating in their other house) until we find the dream home. If we pull this off, I doubt the dream home will come on the market any time soon...
I’d like to exchange ASAP so we can get a removals company in the next few days and empty the house well before completion.
We’re just watching day by day. I really hope it happens...

alliecader · 23/03/2020 21:53

We're between exchange and completion moving from England to Scotland in two weeks. Missives exchanged in Scotland which means totally committed financially. Our buyers are local and were renting till they moved to our house. How can travel to work still be deemed ok if not possible to work from home and yet this situation NOT be essential? It's a question of no longer owning the roof over our head in two weeks time and our buyers not having anywhere to live. I'm beside myself with worry. So angry with people carrying on as normal going to the pub etc. That's made things so much worse. The government had no choice but to act as they have tonight.

Treacletoots · 24/03/2020 11:42

We assumed we'd be locked down for a few weeks. However the word from our removals, solicitor and home builder is that it's still on as delivery services are classed as essential services.

So who knows? We need to know to ensure we have broadband at the right house..

0htooooodles · 24/03/2020 15:45

Ours are still aiming for Monday, however our removal company has cancelled on us. Looks like we'll be renting a van, but at this rate as long as we can we'll do it!!!

Treacletoots · 24/03/2020 16:22

AnyVan... Are still operating and have approval

user1019273703 · 24/03/2020 16:57

Meant to complete monday, moving 80 miles away. As of today still going ahead. Moving furniture etc is essential really. Such a stressful time.
