Help! How long do we self isolate for?

Had an occasional cough 9 days ago, sore throat, headache etc. Didn't think it constituted a "continuous" cough so went to the shops last Wednesday to pick up a few bits. They didn't have much in so had to go back out again on Friday. Cough got a lot worse yesterday and I had several coughing bouts. Took a lemsip in the morning which helped but I'm the evening it came back again.

Today it's been very on and off. So my question is this, I'm going to self isolate but how long for? Do I go from the original cough 9 days ago, or do I go from yesterday? DH is a key worker so can't work from home however would have to self isolate. When would he need to isolate to?

And yes, I know, I'm an idiot for not self isolating in the first place and I already feel really awful about that but there's nothing I can do about that now

You isolate for 7 days from onset of symptoms. Others in your household self isolate for 14 days from onset of symptoms.

@FuckOffCorona but in terms of onset of symptoms, do I go by the occasional cough or the cough that led to lots of coughing bouts and the need for lemsip?

Count it from yesterday, when the cough became persistent.

And your DH must self isolate for 14 days too
