A BSL plea

Good morning everyone,

For most of us our usual daily routine is on hold. For anyone who now has spare time, moments of boredom etc could you please consider learning some British sign language.

My son is hearing impaired, he can communicate well with his hearing aids, but he can also communicate with BSL. Sadly most people cannot understand this form of communication. During isolation there are huge benefits, we can’t see our neighbour at the moment, they have been learning some BSL so they can ‘talk’ to my son when they are on the roof terrace. But all you need to do is see a person, whether that’s through a window, from a balcony etc.

British Sign are currently giving the opportunity to learn some BSL at a price you can pay, whether that’s £0 or £50.

Please think about it, communication is even more vital at the moment. Imagine being able to leave social distancing behind in the coming months knowing a new language.

What a lovely idea. I know some Makaton but have wanted to learn BSL for ages. It is also a great option for homeschooling.
