We are going into full lockdown in 48 hours. We have 103 cases, no deaths as yet. Jacinda is yet again showing strong leadership in a crisis.

She's been great. I'm very glad they're doing this now. Weird times though.

I'm not sure what it's going to mean for me. We've sold our house and we're supposed to be moving in late April. I have no idea how that's going to work. The original plan was to move back to the UK but our flights have been cancelled so we're looking for a flat for a couple of months or until things settle down.

ZacharyQuack · 23/03/2020 04:57

It's going to be hard on so many people, but absolutely the right thing to do.

eaglejulesk · 23/03/2020 05:39

Yes, Jacinda is handling it brilliantly and lockdown is the right thing to do - especially as social distancing clearly doesn't work!

GADDay · 23/03/2020 05:41

When this is all over. I am moving to NZ.

That's if I am still allowed - JA may ban Australians on the basis of collective stupidity.

Not even joking.

Turangawaewae · 23/03/2020 05:53

It feels very odd right now. Part of me wonders if we have missed the chance to escape the big city like all the idiots you see in the disaster movies.

DD is overjoyed at a month off school.

Does anyone know how the food supplies have held up in Italy and China?

CMMum88 · 23/03/2020 06:11

DP is completely off for the next four weeks which is great as we have a baby and a very very full on toddler but it is going to be so eerie stuck in the house for four weeks just us four. My family are flight away and we are feeling very very far away from them at the moment.

CMMum88 · 23/03/2020 06:13

@Turangawaewae fresh produce, milk, bread, meat etc will hold up extremely well here as we are producers, thank goodness. It doesn't sound like anyone is having any trouble getting food in Italy, I just worry about all those who rely on public transport to get to the supermarket.

EmpressMcSchnozzle · 23/03/2020 06:39

I envy you your leader. I think she's amazing.

Sadly I missed the window to emigrate to New Zealand a few years back (my profession was on the shortage list only very, very briefly and now I'm too old). I think you stand the best chance of any of the highly developed nations to come through this as well as possible, for so many reasons.l

EmMcK · 23/03/2020 06:44

Hello fellow Kiwi. I bloody love our leader. We are settling in for four weeks plus of isolation, planning on setting up some sort of time table for the kids. We have already told them that they have to get dressed each morning which didn't thrill them. I cant quite wrap my head around the panic buying though

AmelieTaylor · 23/03/2020 06:47

My mum is in NZ. She lives in a Residential Village in Auckland. She just got a notice from their office, from their Doctors to say people are going around in groups saying they’re ‘sanitisation from the Govt’ to get into peoples homes.

I’m furious as they shouldn’t be able to even get into my Mums village

I wish I’d gone back to NZ earlier in the year, but I didn’t want to fly & my life is here. But I’m scared with underlying conditions it would have been a safer option I’m sure

Stay safe over there 💕

everyonesacf · 23/03/2020 06:55

I am so bloody impressed with our Prime Minister! She has had everything thrown at her during her term and every challenge has been handled strongly, calmly and clearly. I cannot say the same for some of my fellow humans in this country with the panic buying. It's bloody ridiculous and selfish. I'm lucky enough to be able to work from home and am just setting up for 4 weeks + away from the office. A bit worried about managing my workload and overseeing schoolwork though!

EmMcK · 23/03/2020 06:57

I know @everyonesacf - I dont know how to balance the school work and my work. I am guessing I will work in the evenings.

Turangawaewae · 23/03/2020 08:23

I'm worried the food might not get to us though. I saw that some of the seasonal workers from the Pacific Islands aren't coming cos they can't get in. Their older populations are so vulnerable with diabetes and other pre existing conditions so the ban is understandable.

Working from home with DC is also a challenge!

I normally have a veggie garden planted up but I was waiting for the end of the drought to replant. Now all the seedlings and seeds have sold out.
