Redundancies due to Coronavirus

I can’t sleep so I’ve just been scrolling through LinkedIn. So many people lost their jobs last week and ongoing uncertainty / concerns over spreading the virus are going to hit the recruitment market hard, in that it’s going to be pretty much impossible to complete a recruitment process.

Do we think that some companies have had a knee jerk reaction and there will be an upswing in a couple of months? Maybe from May onwards, or will it go on longer?

They've had a knee jerk reaction because the government has just taken a big hammer and bashed them on the knee.

No business = no need for staff.

Some may furlough them on 80% using the new system.

Hmm, I remember working through 2008/9. A lot of companies had a knee jerk reaction and made a lot of redundancies, then we’re recruiting again 6 months later.

At least the furlough option is available this time, for 3 months I think.
