My partner is showing signs of the virus
Temp 39.7 & cough. Done the symptoms checker online which says oh needs to stay at home for 14 days & keep the rest of the household home too. Employer is saying it’s 7 days... what is correct?

Many thanks x

It’s 7 days for the person with symptoms and 14 days for everyone else in the household.

LambriniSocialist · 22/03/2020 22:12

It's 7 days for them, 14 days for the rest of you. If one of you develops symptoms then it's 7 days for that person from when symptoms start. Assuming you are better by the end of that 7 days.

LambriniSocialist · 22/03/2020 22:13

Yes that BBC graphic is useful.

If his symptoms started today, then he's in till Monday 30th, the rest of you till Monday 6th. Because he could pass to you on Sunday 29th, thus starting your 7 days.
Sorry.

badcactus2020 · 22/03/2020 22:52

7 days from when the first person shows symptoms then other members of the household have to stay in for 14 days unless they also get sick then it's 7 days for them too counted from when they started showing symptoms

HarrietThePi · 22/03/2020 22:52

Is it your employeer who is saying 7 days or is it his? Show them the BBC infographic a pp shared, I think that's the clearest explanation of it.

Mumofoneandanotherontheway · 22/03/2020 22:55

Harriet it’s his employer saying 7 days

14 days. The advice started at 7 days then changed to 14 days. I would stay home for 14 days.

Guidance here.

It's 7 days for your DH...
14 days for rest of household due to
Incubation period.
