To feel guilty? (Coronavirus)

I know everyone is probably fed up with these threads, sorry!

I am a key worker. Due in work tomorrow, Dd in school (reception). I am a lone parent and my only support system are on the vulnerable list.

I'm just riddled with guilt at the moment. Guilty I am leaving DD in school, guilty the teachers have to care for one more child, guilty I am not self isolating, guilty that I have to use public transport.

I just want to lock the doors and keep my Dd safe and not add to the numbers of people out and about. Think the #staythefuckhome thing has got into my head.

Sorry I dont have an aibu but I have nobody to speak to about it all Sad

But you have no choice, so nothing to feel guilty about 🤷‍♀️. It's an all round shit situation but I'm reserving my ire for people who are choosing to get together unnecessarily, not key workers who have to carry on working.

Don't feel guilty. If you are a key worker, you are needed; hold your head high, and do your job with pride. There's no reason for supermarket or NHS workers to feel guilty about going to work, and neither should anybody else who is needed.

Don’t waste time and energy feeling guilty. You are a key worker and are needed.

We’re very grateful for the sacrifices you are making.

Pembsgirl · 22/03/2020 20:59

Please don't feel guilty about taking the help that you need in order to help others. Whatever your job if you're a key worker, we all need and appreciate you.

Thank you for what you're doing, and the sacrifices you are making.

Thank you all for your kind words Flowers

I think it's just because I am not staying in (I am social distancing apart from work hours).

I think I just need to get off the damn net! A lot of posts about people taking up the school slots when they don't need to (I do, she can't be left alone or with elderly grandparents so..) and stuff about keeping kids inside when mine will be in a classroom in 12 hours.

We are both healthy and symptom free (so far) so it isn't that. I think it's because the majority of people are staying behind closed doors (or should be!) And our routine will be largely unchanged Mon-Fri.

I do want to work and am going to work as hard as I can for as long as I can it's just difficult. But I get that it is for everybody right now!

Are supermarket workers classed as key workers at the moment?

LouMumsnet · 22/03/2020 21:32

Hi there, @Littlebearstrousers - we're just bobbing on here to let you know that we've moved this to the coronavirus topic now. Flowers
