Why arent the Government putting leaflets through everyones door so that those without the internet are aware there is help.

They managed to leaflet homes about Brexit!!

YoursTunbridgeWells · 22/03/2020 18:34

I think the idea that there are support groups everywhere is naive. There are a lot I know but there are none that cover me (too rural) nor my elderly father's area. We are having to continue shopping even though we are vulnerable. Nodody's going to make a thankless 20 mile round trip daily with enough food for a family are they?

OP knows she shouldn't be shopping. But the usual back up of online shopping isn't there. We don't know where she lives - a flat, a house, village, town or completely isolated.

Without a helpline for those in isolation or the parish counil or other local body taking responsability, people will go out and shop. Every house in the country needs a leaflet with contact detaills.

Otherwise ill people and vulnerable will mix in the shops. And one will kill the other.

Theyrecomingtotakemeawayhaha · 22/03/2020 18:35

Search for Facebook, local groups.Lot of info on there and people offering to go shopping, collect prescriptions.
But do not go out,you could infect someone and put them in the same position as you are now.

HappyHammy · 22/03/2020 18:35

Local communitites are putting leaflets through doors. It gives names and phone numbers of people who can shop for you and pick up meds etc. What would be on a govt leaflet?

CappyCapCap · 22/03/2020 18:37

In the majority of areas there are.

If you live in the middle of nowhere, they may not be. But that's the problem living in the middle of nowhere.

I live in a rural village theres loads of people willing to drive 50 miles round trips for people who were supporting elderly parents, but are now in isolation.

Most areas have something. If not by local people, by local charities and organisations.

Or op could say where she is. Someone here might be able to help. I will if they are close by.

GreyGoose1980 · 22/03/2020 18:44

Where are you OP? There will be a local group who can help up.

DeathMetalMum · 22/03/2020 18:50

Don't go out.

Go on facebook there are hundreds of people in my area willing to help. Also I'm guessing your children are in school? If not you will have a health visitor. I'd ring one of those in the morning. They will be able to organise someone to bring you food or give you a number for someone else who will. Doctors surgery at a last resort there will be someone nearby.

LoudBatPerson · 22/03/2020 18:54

Try the Nextdoor app, lots of people in our area offering to help.

Deliveroo and Uber eats are both delivering from co-op and independent grocery shops near us.

If neither of those help try phoning your local church or gurdwawa.

Going out will put others at risk.

Undies1990 · 22/03/2020 18:59

Please don't go to the supermarket. Please look for alternatives as other people have suggested.

My precious DD (17) works in one of the large supermarkets on the tills and I am very very worried about her exposure to this virus. Hundreds and hundreds of people are coughing over her, getting too close and not to even mention being rude, horrible arseholes to her about the lack of supplies etc.

Please stay at home and lets all be kind to each other.

Thanks

DishRanAwayWithTheSpoon · 22/03/2020 19:02

You don't need to go out

It's not difficult. Cough or fever you stay indoors. Do not go out to the supermarket. You could quite literally kill someone.

Find your local Facebook page and post on there. Do you really have absolutely nothing?

ShellsAndSunrises · 22/03/2020 19:04

@YoursTunbridgeWells the government is setting up local hubs to cover the whole U.K. If you don’t have one now, you will have soon, with the ability to deliver food & medications to your doorstep.

runrabbitrunrunrun · 22/03/2020 19:10

Please don’t go out. The amount of people you could spend to would be large with the potential to kill someone. There are help groups in most areas now, someone will do your shop for you.

TheStarOnTheChristmasTree · 22/03/2020 19:12

We're self isolating because I have CV symptoms. We put a note in the window so people know that we can't answer the door. It had the unintended consequence of our neighbours popping a note through the door with their mobile numbers and offering help. So maybe put a note in your window if you can. You might get offers of help.

YoursTunbridgeWells · 22/03/2020 19:12

@ShellsAndSunrises That would be great - don'tknow how that nugget passed me by. But until it's in place, I'm running the gaunlet 3 times a week as you can't buy enough to feed a family here.

Kmx123 · 22/03/2020 19:15

Facebook groups ? Home delivery ? Milk man ? Or put a note through neighbour/s door maybe ?
Lots of people want to help.
Stay home 💐

southbailey · 22/03/2020 19:17

I'm in a nearby borough where there is support. Let me look and see on fb if there is a Harrow one.

southbailey · 22/03/2020 19:20

There is. I've requested to join to see if I can get you some help. It looks like they are operating via what's app groups. Would you tell me which area you are, then I could link you to the correct one?

Floralnomad · 22/03/2020 19:21

Join Facebook if only to find a community group that can help you , failing that get the phone number for the local vicar and I’m sure they will find someone to help out with getting shopping .

iano · 22/03/2020 19:26

Surely you could just set up a fb profile to join a local page and ask for help. I think you have to try all options before endangering others.

throwaway201809 · 22/03/2020 19:38

This thread really scares me... I can't believe that OP didn't think to make a FB account to ask for help in local groups, or pop notes through her neighbours door asking for help or contact local outreaches.

I'm in my mid 20's and I'm extremely sick, if I catch this virus, there's not much hope for me. So to hear that people are still considering taking their whole family out shopping whilst displaying symptoms breaks my heart. People really need to start taking this seriously

Hoggleludo · 22/03/2020 19:44

I'm self isolating due to being high risk

I went on Facebook and got someone to grab my medications that I needed

There's loads of people out there to help
