Mountain rescue are appealing for people not to go out to places where they may need rescue if they become ill as the whole team would then need to isolate if the patient was infectious.

Also A and E staff don't want to treat injured cyclists when they could be dealing with cv patients.

I saw lots of recreational cyclists out today.

Just thought it's worth saying as it might just help a bit in this crisis.

Thank you. Sadly we know.some dickheads will still do risky activities because they are 'social distancing' in remote areas and for 'mental health'.

SomethingOnce · 23/03/2020 01:25

No DIY either, that’s just asking for trouble.

littlebitwooway · 23/03/2020 02:02

Yes best not drive your car as there is a risk of road accident.

SomeoneElseEntirelyNow · 23/03/2020 02:04

Move everything essential in your house to the ground floor to avoid tripping and falling on the stairs.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 23/03/2020 02:07

Sorry but I can't see that me cycling a few miles at the weekend is an issue. So I'll keep on doing it until im forced not to.

MaMisled · 23/03/2020 02:13

I can't help worrying about all the children playing on trampolines in the garden whilst not at school.

anxietygirl76 · 23/03/2020 02:17

Maybe don't shower in case you slip

Yetanotherbloominnamechange · 23/03/2020 02:23

Better not use any knives in the kitchen!

PotholeParadise · 23/03/2020 02:29

I agree with you about complete idiots haring off into the mountains, and that we should all assume that the NHS isn't there to deal with paragliding accidents.

However, cycling? Outside, fresh-air, and you can cycle away very fast from anyone who tries to engage you in conversation.

BlackCatSleeping · 23/03/2020 02:33

A friend said that Aviemore is utterly heaving with hill walkers and apparently Snowden has had its busiest day so far. I get that being stuck indoors all day is crap, but it’s really frustrating for locals having loads of people from the city turn up when they are trying to socially distance themselves. People shouldn’t be traveling to other parts of the Uk right now.

PyongyangKipperbang · 23/03/2020 02:37

FFS.

The OP makes a valid point. Unless you need to do something that is knowingly risky, such as cycling for fun v cycling to work as a paramedic, "going for a drive" v driving to the supermarket to feed your family, dont do it. Not rocket science surely?! Who the fuck needs to walk up sodding Snowdon? No one. So dont fucking do it!

I live near(ish) to Matlock Bath and today it was absolutely rammed with fucking bikers. Weekend bikers who do this every single bank holiday for fun, not to get to work, not to ferry supplies to the sick and elderly. Not a single one of them needed to ride there, drink orange squash in their leathers for 2 hours in groups of 100 or more and then ride home again, but they did it anyway. Ignoring the absolute idiocy of gathering in such numbers in the first place, do you really believe that every single one of them made it there and back without injury? And whoever ended up being blue lighted in with a broken leg took essential care away from a vulnerable person who may have needed that bed.

Its a simple message but clearly needs re-stating for the hard of thinking on MN -- DONT BE A DICK.

Willow2017 · 23/03/2020 02:54

People in rural areas can hardly do social distancing when idiots flock from cities to go skiing or cycling or walking. Have you seen the news pictures?
Plus our infrastructure cannot cope with hundreds of people extra in shops, we have empty shelves too, never mind health care.
Yep dont be a dick.

PotholeParadise · 23/03/2020 03:01

Oh, are we talking about those weirdos who descended on beauty spots far from home? I'm totally willing to condemn them, whether by foot, car, cycle or motorcycle. Or indeed tricycle.

It's not the time for time-trials, either, even at home.

fallfallfall · 23/03/2020 03:10

well then maybe petition your local government and suggest the town be closed off? if the local authority agrees visitors place undue burden on their community services they can shutter all the shops. people will quickly turn away when nothing is open for service.
honestly until boris & co pull up the carpet every tom dick and harry will party along.
which is really sad as i see a heck of a lot of less than fab fit 40 year olds who might not survive the virus.

ItsNotJustTheFuckingFlu · 23/03/2020 03:22

Hamsterly Forrest was at full capacity today and has now closed.

I understand wanting some fresh but common sense should tell people that tourist attractions might not be the best
place to go during a pandemic.

I've seen a lot people talk about going to high force with the family. Several people heading to the caravans to "self isolate" for the weekend. Local Facebook group has half a dozen Mams asking for recommendations where they can take the kids for a day out but where nobody will else be. 🙄

Some men on the local Facebook groups already moaning about no pubs and having to put up with the kids twisting and thinking of taking up cycling and asking for groups to join.

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 23/03/2020 05:35

The Caravan and Motorhome Club is shutting until the 30th June and the Camping and Caravan Club has also shut so that maybe will stop a lot of people travelling as loads of people use these sites.

I received an email yesterday evening from CaMC about this

DareToEatAPeach · 23/03/2020 06:16

I think doing anything risky right now is stupid.

Eg doing a few easy miles on your bike on quiet roads sounds very sensible.

The twenty tits I saw yesterday all moving like a herd practising for the Tour de France, not so much.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 23/03/2020 06:53

ItsNotJustTheFuckingFlu you live near me then. Fancy getting all the kids together and going to the Desmenses?

Canyoutellilikrchocolate · 23/03/2020 07:00

I think there’s a difference between extreme mountain biking, which is likely to put you in hospital, and taking a gentle cycle. I’ll still be doing the latter.

SomethingOnce · 23/03/2020 07:41

This crisis is showing up the fucking idiots.

Snowdon, FFS!

BlueMoon1103 · 23/03/2020 07:44

Cycling is a recommended activity. Just do it somewhere flat and safe and not up a fucking mountain. Also please don’t put the words mental health is quotation marks, mental health is a very real issue right now.

AintNobodyHereButUsKittens · 23/03/2020 08:01

The chances of a reasonably fit person requiring emergency evacuation from Snowdon in late March

EverydayLife · 23/03/2020 08:02

Did you see the pictures of people climbing Snowdon on the weekend. They were literally in a queue like a supermarket.

AintNobodyHereButUsKittens · 23/03/2020 08:08

...has got to be minimal. The problem is that the government advised “Feel free to go out for a walk and get some exercise” without working out what that meant for overcrowding in all the obvious places on a nice sunny Sunday if there were no cinemas, no visits to families, no recreational shopping and no restaurants.

MangePasTesOnglesVilain · 23/03/2020 13:28

Well I knew everyone wouldn't agree but even if a few people change behaviour it might save a bed-and therefore a life-somewhere.

For the ones who don't agree, let's hope it's not someone you care about who can't get healthcare if you get injured or need rescuing unnecessarily.

These are not normal times-we can't carry on as normal.
