Sanitary towels, tonic water why ????

I'm not the panic buy type so maybe that's why I don't understand why are people hoarding fanny pads and tonic water. Is there something I don't know ? Quinine is not a magical cure, we're not running out of sweetener and if you're using sanitary towels instead of toilet paper, buy the panty liners not the extra flow night towels.

The popper secures the wings together on the outside of your knickers, where the wings would normally stick. So it's wrapped around your pants just like the adhesive kind. They're waterproof on the side against your knickers.

Aaahhh thankyou longines

Likethebattle · 22/03/2020 18:53

Are re-usable pads any good if you have really heavy flow?

Likethebattle · 22/03/2020 18:54

Worried about feeling damp.

slipperywhensparticus · 22/03/2020 18:56

I've got period pants here so I think im ok as long as I dont get heavy again

fallfallfall · 22/03/2020 19:06

Now might be the time to sew up some old towels and socks and make your own. Honestly why rely on a supply chain. Make a lined period towel to save the bedding on heavy nights.

Ginfordinner · 22/03/2020 19:10

Can you use tampons instead?

Sparrowlegs248 · 22/03/2020 20:15

@Likethebattle yes they are. I changed to them when I got awful periods after my second child. Honour your flow do a real variety of sizes, lengths, absorbancies. I have less of a damp feeling with reusable than disposable, less plasticky and sweaty for want of a better description.

Kateplaysrugbyinmydreams · 22/03/2020 20:21

There are four menstruating women in this house and I stocked up three weeks ago as I often do in bulk for that purpose. I will br topping up as needed. Neither my teenagers nor I in my forties are very regular or light.

EBearhug · 22/03/2020 20:26

Restocking the sanitary shelves has never been a priority round here - there can often be gaps for some pads or tampons.

SilverySurfer · 22/03/2020 20:31

I was bemused by some of the items Tesco have removed from my next order such as salted peanuts and wild bird food - the latter reminded me of the fat balls thread Grin www.mumsnet.com/Talk/mumsnet_classics/2017083-He-has-eaten-a-fat-ball

On reflection I think lorries are concentrating on delivering food as priority and other stuff will become available as things calm down.

Sparrowlegs248 · 22/03/2020 20:39

@LonginesPrime which make are those please?

NewName54321 · 22/03/2020 20:58

Some schools are giving supplies to their vulnerable girls who need it.

LonginesPrime · 22/03/2020 23:02

@Nottalotta they're these ones from Amazon:

Zombiemum1946 · 22/03/2020 23:05

@ginfordinner , no I can't use tampons.I started to get pain and irritation and then became excruciating so I changed to pads. I might give the reusable a go . It would save that oh no can I get any moment of panic over the next few months.

OP posts:
Sparrowlegs248 · 22/03/2020 23:08

Wow they're excellent value, are they any good? I could do with some more for every day (have know when I might have a bleed randomly so use pads every day).

YoursTunbridgeWells · 22/03/2020 23:43

I have some washable ones but have a pile of old t-shirts to cut up if needed. It's what my granny used. Not nice but would solve the issue if I get stuck.

BilboBercow · 23/03/2020 00:49

I've gone through 8 cans of fever tree and two bottles of tonic since Tuesday.

Zombiemum1946 · 23/03/2020 06:36

@bilbobercow Shock now that's a serious problem you've got there unless there was gin in it Grin

bellinisurge · 23/03/2020 06:55

Make your own reusables. Loads of tutorials on YouTube.
My dd has a massive stash of homemade mixed with online ordered. Sanpro is not an issue for her.
I'm a general prepper and, having hid all my preps from dh over the year, I wheeled them out - or at least told him where they were hidden in our little house. He felt a bit "left out" on that score so he bought 3 bottles of tonic for gin. I put them with the 6 bottles of tonic I had bought one by one over last year for just such an emergency.

EmpressLangClegInChair · 23/03/2020 07:18

I have reusable pads, cotton hankies and an EcoEgg for my washing machine that just needs the occasional refill - all godsends at the moment.

Ginfordinner · 23/03/2020 07:58

An Eco egg probably won't destroy any viruses. I think now is the time to swallow your principles and use a bleach containing washing powder.

TabbyMumz · 23/03/2020 08:23

"People ARE hoarding sanpro. I saw a woman in Aldi last week with 3 packs of towels in her basket, she hesitated and then picked up a fourth. I hope she gets some help from a gynaecologist if she is bleeding that heavily!"
We could be stuck in for 3 months, so at a pack a month and a spare...what's wrong with getting 4 in? Plus she might have daughters!
