Brittany Ferries

I'm so p*ssed off! Brittany ferries are only offering a travel voucher (lasting 1 year) for our cancelled ferry AND even more annoying it is for £207 (we paid £362). They are uncontactable by phone.
This isn't right surely! Their terms when I booked said full refund for cancelled travel.
Who should I contact.

Why is the value less than you paid?

Are the ferries cancelled?

Gemzee · 22/03/2020 11:26

The ferries are cancelled. They make no reference in the email as to why it is less (can't be a mistake though as my family have the same email for amounts less than they paid). I'm so angry!

How did you pay? If they have cancelled the service you are entitled to a refund.

minipie · 22/03/2020 11:29

Do they have a force majeure clause - something saying they have no liability in the case of exceptional events outside their control, or similar wording.

The travel company I booked with has one of these so they say we don’t get anything back, even though generally if they cancelled we would get 100% back.

Gemzee · 22/03/2020 11:29

They cancelled not us so yeah, would be expecting a full refund!

playthestation · 22/03/2020 11:32

You can try your credit/debit card maybe. It looks like they have just decided to give vouchers in the hope that people won't push for a refund

MsTSwift · 22/03/2020 11:33

We’ve lost well over a grand on travel. It’s gone. You’ve done well to get something back. We need to adjust expectations now.

Do we? Why should the small man lose our whole the big companies save their own skin?

Fuck that attitude. If your company cancels you expect a refund.

playthestation · 22/03/2020 11:35

Lose out WHILE

Gemzee · 22/03/2020 11:37

@playthestation agree 100%

OP posts:
PersonaNonGarter · 22/03/2020 11:40

Calm down. You have a year to sort this out.

By the time you use this, travel may be much cheaper. Not least because the oil price has plummeted since you bought your ticket

Gemzee · 22/03/2020 11:40

Should I try my travel insurance instead?

You do realise that these are extraordinary circumstances don't you? Brittany Ferries have had to cancel all their sailings to the paying public, their income has drastically reduced. If everyone insisted on getting their money back in full, right now, the company goes bust and no one gets anything.

Yes, I do.

I understand how business works. How these companies act now say is a lot about them.

MsTSwift · 22/03/2020 14:55

Lots of these big “mean” companies will fold. Then there won’t be any ferries - or planes for that matter. At all. Then “the little man” won’t be able to go on holiday.

Travel insurance won’t help us I’ve checked. If you can afford a holiday you can afford to lose it. Friends have lost their entire livelihoods in a week be grateful you’re only down a few quid

*This isn't anyone's fault, but people have lost their jobs everywhere. Im self employed so looking to re coup every single penny I have paid out in travel/tickets etc right away. My (personal not household) income has gone from £250 per week to Zero, instantly. So while I take your point about the potential folding of the company I think it's important to realise that is a worry because of the extend of job losses, not because people won't be able to go on holiday.

Travel insurance won’t help us I’ve checked.

That's unfortunate.

If you can afford a holiday you can afford to lose it.

Can you really not see that the people who previously could afford a holiday really cannot afford to lose it now because they have Laos lost their entire livelihoods? People all over the country booked things thinking they had an Income, so while they may have been able to afford to lose it then, they certainly can't now.

playthestation · 22/03/2020 15:11

Absolutely bold fail.

MsTSwift · 23/03/2020 06:33

I’m self employed too. That money is gone. Ranting about it and getting upset won’t help. Through history people have lost homes livelihoods and loved ones. We are in extraordinary times.

playthestation · 23/03/2020 11:42

Get a grip. Its ok for people to be upset. It's also ok for people to 'rant'. It's also ok for people to seek a refund. Just because you are dealing with it by writing the money off doesn't mean everyone else should, or even can.

Stop being so bloody rude on a thread where someone was simply asking advice.

MsTSwift · 23/03/2020 13:35

The only person being rude is you. Your blood pressure must be through the roof Mrs angry.

BarbaraofSeville · 23/03/2020 13:44

Calm down and see if the advice given by Moneysavingexpert is any help.

playthestation · 23/03/2020 13:46

I'm not angry at all Confused

I came on the thread to try and help the OP unlike you who basically said tough shit.

I'm not the rude one.

Pluckedpencil · 23/03/2020 13:52

Most airlines have offered a refund when the flight has been cancelled, but I think they are held by particular consumer rules. Have you tried the moneysaving expert boards? They are usually great on these things? Did you pay by credit card? They may pay out too because it is over the threshold to be covered.

MsTSwift · 23/03/2020 16:02

I didn’t say tough shit and I am sympathetic it’s crap utterly crap but it is for everyone and sometimes you’ve got to take the long view. These aren’t normal times and I think we all need to readjust to the new normal. A lot of these companies won’t come back.

MsTSwift · 23/03/2020 16:03

Also it’s not anyone’s fault is it
