Jeremy Corbyn -What would he have done?

That really. Is anyone else wondering what JC would have done in this situation had he become PM? Personally, I think he would have allocated all the money (depending on who might have been his Chancellor) already there wouldn’t be anything left for any “exceptions”, but I could be wrong. Finances aside and based on his policies how do people think he might have tackled this pandemic.

Fuck all. Combined with John McDonnell. They categorically would not have coped. Boris has surrounded himself with some really smart people. He may not get everything right but he is doing what he can

everythingisginandroses · 22/03/2020 09:35

He would have done his best.

tegucigalpa13 · 22/03/2020 09:55

Stop trying to make this a party political issue. It is not helpful. We need to pull together in this crisis.

JC would have done exactly what BJ has done.

He would have followed expert advice from medical staff and epidemiologists. He would have followed expert advice from the Treasury, Trades Unions, CBI the food industry, road haulage operators etc etc. He would have done his best to preserve life in an impossible situation. Like BJ he would have depended on the civil service to implement changes and on the police and army to help out and to maintain public order.

I was never a JC fan. Quite the opposite.

Panic- bought lentils..

Bluntness100 · 22/03/2020 10:01

I think he’d have done very similar to be honest, bo jo isn’t running the government like a one man band, he is taking advise and the civil servant and medical advisors would be the same people irrelevant of who was in government, In addition whatever Jeremy has asked for Boris has delivered pretty much, there is no fighting going on right now.

Metoyoutoo · 22/03/2020 10:03

He would’ve done the same as Boris has been doing as he would have the same advisors. He won’t ever admit that though. Labour are a protest party now. That’s it. Boris and his advisors could find the cure and he’d say it wasn’t enough.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 22/03/2020 10:04

Probaby exactly what BJ has done. Same expert pand industry panels to advise him.

It isn't a party political thing. Nor is it really a personality competition. It is educated people making the best of an unprecedented situation.

We now have BJ, stumbling, mumbling mop head.

We could have had JC, soft spoken, hand ringing, insincere wooliness.

Neither personality matters.

Blamed the middle classes, Imperialism, Colonialism and the Tories. Grin

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 22/03/2020 10:06

He would have done exactly the same as Boris.

I actually think his refusal to isolate despite being 70 was an appalling message to send to the public. It was bescially "medical advice doesnt apply to ME".
How can he expect the public to listen to scientific advice when he doesnt himself? I hate the tories but I am so glad he isn't PM. He's weak yet stubborn and he would have made a mess of it.

crazydiamond222 · 22/03/2020 10:16

'JC would have done exactly what BJ has done. He would have followed expert advice from medical staff and epidemiologists'

The problem is Mr Johnson has not followed that advice. He dithered around for a month with his herd immunity strategy and then finally decided to halfheartedly recommend some weak measures around social distancing which are too little and too late. People are in for a massive shock in the next couple of weeks when the death rates climb exponentially.

HeresMe · 22/03/2020 10:17

He would have tried negotiation with the virus.

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 22/03/2020 10:18

The problem is Mr Johnson has not followed that advice

Neither has JC. Medical experts said over 70s to isolate. He stubbornly said he wont do that as it doesnt apply to him apparently.

itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted · 22/03/2020 10:20

He would have claimed the virus is a Brexit conspiracy to get us to close borders without alterting the public

Then he would have nationalised every company and bankrupted us

Thank fuck he isn't prime minister

chipsandgin · 22/03/2020 10:25

Fairly similar I guess - possibly paid more attention to the self employed and renters (& all
the individuals that will suffer catastrophically) rather than trying to save the big businesses, but either way keeping people employed and attempting to plan for the recovery of the future economy would have featured in a similar way, probably just in a fairer way!

Essentially though the political party of the government in power is less relevant than it has ever been right now - it’s a crisis and as much as I think BoJo is a clown I don’t envy him or anyone in a position of power or decision making as they are fucked whichever way they jump.

Mockerswithnoknockers · 22/03/2020 10:28

Boris has surrounded himself with some really smart people.

Such as?

When all this is over and the initial 'herd immunity' let-them-die strategy is found to be responsible for thousands of additional deaths, I hope the authrities can have a word with Cummings.

JumboSauce · 22/03/2020 10:50

I’m not a Corbyn supporter but I think he may have had some ideas that BJ and his team haven’t thought of based on his lefty policies. It is this that I was hoping to draw out from the thread. For instance chipsandgin has made a good point about his policies regarding the self employed, might it have been more generous? But then he may have been harsher on the employed. I’m also wondering about food shortages and rationing? Supermarket open times?
I also somehow doubt he would have the lies of rishon sunak as his chancellor.
