Japan - Olympic Flame

50,000 people turned up to see the Olympic flame. WTF? But I guess as most of them were wearing masks they'll be ok.

Surely after 60% of Malaysian cases being traced back to a large religious gathering you might think this would not have been allowed to happen in Japan. Or am I missing something?

Yep, it's bonkers. Cases have probably been fairly low up to now (even after taking the low testing rates into account) but they are going to start going up from now. Because of a whole bunch of events like this, because the schools are opening up again, and because of hanami season.

After the pictures of crowds from this weekend (Columbia Rd flower market anyone?) the UK is no better of course.
