When is the best time of day to go supermarket food shopping?
SoleBizzz · 21/03/2020 15:47
The supermarkets are no longer open 24 hour because of restocking the shelves. Is there a best time to go to ensure a good range of items available?
I didn't have the money to bulk buy before.
I am a lone parent of a disabled child. Nobody to help. Me.

I think it varies unfortunately.
I've been to Lidl at opening (albeit last Sunday & much has changed since) and got everything I think, mum went to Aldi at lunchtime and got most things, a friend went to Asda at 6am & still couldn't get pasta, loo roll or jars.
It's counter productive to social distancing too because you might have to go to 5 shops to get what you need.
I don't know if it's worth trying Home Bargains or B&M because they have food & toiletries but might not be as busy as the traditional supermarkets.
Try local Facebook pages/groups as well, I keep seeing shops advertising what they've got & a local food warehouse has opened to the public. Also local butchers etc having more stock.

I agree, it depends on your area and local store. I'd normally suggest going 1st thing, but do check online beforehand as to what time they open. Also, some are allowing elderly/NHS to visit the 1st hr they are open. I went to tesco metro last week at 6:30am, to be told they dont put any meat out till 8am now.
2 days later went again, but at 8am. This time they still hadnt put any meat out. (only a few free-range, expensive chickens). But also no veg/tinned goods etc. Only a few things being re-stocked then too.

I dont think there is one atm. I think it gets put out as and when they can
ThePug · 21/03/2020 16:04
My DH has just gone to Aldi - says it’s quiet and fruit & veg stocks all good but meat section apparently ransacked. We’ve prioritised social distancing over availability and will just adapt meals to what we can buy rather than mixing with the world and his wife at opening time.
SoleBizzz · 21/03/2020 16:14
I haven't been to abig supermarket for years as I shop at the local Tesco petrol station shop and onike at Asda/Tesco etc.
I ma dreading running out of food for us.
SoleBizzz · 21/03/2020 16:14
I just rang Asda and he said come at 9am though they open at 8am

No online delivery slots anywhere.
Will buying a delivery package guarantee me a slot?
Pedallleur · 21/03/2020 17:11
If you want meat go to a butcher if you can. Mine has plenty of meat. As long as he gets it delivered he will sell it.
Madcats · 21/03/2020 17:18
OP try to link in to one of your local Facebook groups. Plenty are setting up teams of volunteers who are willing to help shop/fill in forms/phone the elderly/dogwalk....
Our Butcher has plenty of meat because half the pubs have shut completely. The veg stall fully intends to stay open until it is shut down. Our convenience stores (Tesco/Coop) are getting regular deliveries and I overheard one of the drivers telling a customer when chilled food was likely to be arriving (some drivers are self-isolating).
Just stay away from the hypermarkets - though surely those idiots must have too much food too eat by now.
Figgygal · 21/03/2020 17:18
No you won’t get a slot with a delivery pass
We all in the same boat
