I just want to be sure because a few people have said different things.

If 1st family member fell ill last sat they have completed 7 days today of self isolation so is then ok to go the shops this week?

Rest of family have self isolated and last member of family is showing new symptoms today so they self isolate from today for 7 days. Takes us to the 14 days anyway but just want to clarify that it's 7 days from symptoms and 14 incase of no symptoms? Have I got that right?

Is it still ok for first member to go out if the last member has a fever?

No, the new guidance is if any family member has symptoms, the whole family has to isolate for 14 days, so if you need food shopping you need to get a friend or family member who doesn't live with you to get it and leave it at your door.

7 days for the one with the symptoms according to here, (14 days for the rest of your family)

www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-stay-at-home-guidance/stay-at-home-guidance-for-households-with-possible-coronavirus-covid-19-infection

Where are you seeing 14 days?

Nousernameforme · 21/03/2020 14:42

7 days for one with symptoms 14 for everyone else in household. Unless they also get symptoms. In which case it is 7 days from onset of symptoms regardless where it falls within the 14 days. Meaning you could get out of iso before 14 days is up or after

So, my oldest daughter started with a viral cough on the 19th. Youngest daughter now has a temperature, sore throat etc today. What is the timer for myself and my husband? 2 weeks from the 19th, or 2 weeks from the 21st?

meredithgrey1 · 21/03/2020 14:45

The guidance is confusing because it says "entire household must isolate for 14 days" but later on it says that once each person with symptoms has done 7 days, they can leave the house.

The later part makes the most sense to me. If you live alone it's 7 days so I don't see why you personally would be contagious on day 8 and have to stay in, just because you live with other people, when someone who lives alone can go out no problem on day 8.

EllieRay · 21/03/2020 14:45

@nellodee that's exactly what I'm confused about... DS started with temp today and we've all been in for a week so far... so we start the 14 days again from today now?

@nellodee even though it seems illogical, it's 14 days from the first person to show symptoms. The guidance says that even if someone new shows symptoms on day 13, that is not a reason to extend the isolation.

I personally would though because surely you could get it from the new person? To me that part seems like guidance put in to stop people having to self isolate for too long - they probably think people wouldn't do it if it could last 3-4 weeks.

7 days cant be enough... From all my readings on the virus from drs, it makes more sense to be 14... But not paid attention to what the gyidelines say

nellodee · 21/03/2020 14:52

That's what I thought. It's about as clear as mud though, isn't it? I've bought board games with instructions in German that were easier to figure out!

My DH works with vulnerable people and his boss has said to come back in next week, he's tried to explain that DS is only just showing signs so should he wait another week but I think his boss thinks he's just trying to get another week off 🙄 this is what worries me!

Yes I’ve just discussed this on another thread, not clear! Surely there must be a HCP (who’s not too tired?!) around here who could clarify for us? Do NHS have a FAQs page on Cv, am sure they could do with one!?
