I come to AIBU for a bit of light relief, controversy, others' opinions etc but it is currently clogged with CV threads.
THERE IS A CV TOPIC!! Go to the Health section, it's under there. I've been reporting posts and asking MN to move them, which they usually do, but it's really a waste of their time, just use the correct section please.
I know I'm not the thread Police and it's not for me to tell others what to do, everyone can use MN as they wish, but it's causing me, and maybe others, unnecessary anxiety when they choose to actively avoid the CV section because they want to think about something else for a few minutes.

I absolutely agree with you. But at the same time it is probably impossible. Almost everything happening at the moment is impacted by covid 19.

Davros · 21/03/2020 11:19

I think a lot of people using MN never look outside their favourite topics and have little idea of the variety and appropriateness of all the sections. Mind you, the CV section must be coming up plenty on Active Conversations so it's hardly hidden.

I totally agree and I'm glad you've started a thread saying it.
I too come on AIBU for light relief and to get away from 'real' life. And to be honest all these CV posts are messing with my mental health. I don't want to see them or read them. And it's not always obvious what they are from the title.

LangSpartacusCleg · 21/03/2020 11:27

Totally, 100% absolutely agree.

If there is an appropriate topic, use it. Otherwise you are being an unreasonable CF.

slashlover · 21/03/2020 11:35

YNBU. Many people have hidden the coronavirus topic because it's affecting their mental health but it doesn't help if everything is on AIBU, especially with vague titles.

I now wait for someone to ask why did you post it here instead of the coronavirus section then? like an idiot.

IvinghoeBeacon · 21/03/2020 11:39

You come on AIBU for light relief?! But it’s where people are most horrible to each other! Confused

IdleLiz · 21/03/2020 11:41

Agree. I have hidden the CV topic.
It's pointless coming on here now to escape CV talk.

I would appreciate suggestions of any other CV-free websites?

Panpastels · 21/03/2020 11:43

I've hidden the CV topic, but it's hard to tell Hmm

BlackCatsRule88 · 21/03/2020 11:45

I know what you mean. I’m trying to find a corner of the internet or social media where there’s no mention of the bloody thing just for some relief, but it’s everywhere. There’s even posts in a photography Facebook group that I’m part of - I really want to put up a poll and ask if I’m the only one that would like to make it a CV free zone, but it’s awfully cliquey so I imagine I’d be shot down. Will probably just leave instead.

ChocolateQuiltedShitPig · 21/03/2020 11:46

Ahh the irony

But everyone else's lives and problems will inevitably be impacted by coronavirus too - you might want to forget about it by reading about people's other, 'unrelated' problems, but most of their problems will be impacted by coronavirus one way or another.

OP, YANBU in expressing frustration that coronavirus is affecting absolutely everything, but YABU to expect people using AIBU to pretend the context of their lives is completely separate from the global pandemic that is currently occurring.

SapphireSalute · 21/03/2020 11:49

lol you won't stop it....there was another thread last week calling for a ban on repeat offenders. it went nowhere!

Davros · 21/03/2020 12:03

I thought I couldn't be the first to say it! I can't do a poll, my phone app doesn't have it.

Ok but there's a CV section so they don't have to pretend

But AIBU often revolves around human interactions. And all of the human interactions people will be having at the moment will be coloured by the fact we're all living through this crisis.

So, for example, 'we are self-isolating but my DH won't, AIBU' doesn't make any sense if you take away the context of cv - it would be 'I want us all to stay inside for no reason and my DH won't'.

Context is so important for questions and responses in AIBU, which is why people drip feeding some massive back story after people have responded is so frustrating, and why some posters ask 'OP, what country are you in?', etc, as there are different social norms and expectations for different contexts.

The current context of cv naturally changes people's behaviour, outlook, and attitudes so I can't see how AIBU can work without taking cv into account the context in which we're all currently existing.
