Awful headaches, help!

Sorry, stuck this here because we’re self isolating atm.

On Thursday I woke up with a headache, wouldn’t shift all day. By evening it was a full blown migraine and my temp was climbing. Woke up yesterday with it at 37.9, a dry cough, stiff neck, aching joints and an exhaustion I’ve not felt since I was pregnant. Headache was still there, it feels like someone is squeezing on my brain, thumps if I stand/move about, and if there’s a sudden loud noise it’s like being stabbed in the brain.

I’ve kept topped up on paracetamol, it didn’t help all of yesterday so I’ve taken cocodamol this morning which still isn’t shifting it. Temp is down to 37.2 now so it’s not being caused by a fever. DD also currently has a temp and cough, exhaustion too but no headache.

I can’t go out obviously, but is there anything I can do at home to get rid of this? I normally have a high pain threshold for headaches, can normally soldier on without painkillers so this has knocked me for six. More scared of the headache than the thought that I might have this virus!

It does sound like a viral infection if your temperature is up as well.

Whereabouts is the pain? Is it all over or just in one area?

enoughenough2 · 21/03/2020 10:35

I've had the same symptoms for past few days. Not sure what it is yet.

When I have a migraine with a stiff neck I find an ice pack on the back of my neck helps.

I also had Chicken Pox as a young adult and the back of my neck was so sore that the only way I could sleep was to make a doughnut shape from a sleeping bag so the top of my neck wasn’t touching anything.

@IpeartreeI it’s going from behind my eyes over the top of my head and down the back of my neck, with a squeezing/tight feeling over it.

@enoughenough2 there was a bug going around my way that was flooring people (that wasn’t related to this virus) so I’m hoping it’s that instead, still going to self isolate for the two weeks as a precaution though.

@ChazsBrilliantAttitude might try some frozen veg! I’d been putting a frozen cloth on it but it was heating up pretty quickly, they might last a bit longer Grin

I feel exactly the same behind eyes and stiffness in neck but I've got mild cold symptoms also and can feel my throat getting sore

They way you describe the squeezing and going down the back of your head sounds like a tension headache? But I feel for you I had an awful 3 day headache that pounded whenever I moved, no fever etc though!

Sinusitis can cause a severe headache. It occurs across the forehead, eyes, nose and cheeks dependingupon which sinus cavities are involved. The pain can affect the top of the head as well if it's bad enough. You don't necessarily get a snuffly nose either.
