No you can’t meet your friend for coffee
No you can’t get your hair done
No you can’t go to pub or restaurant
No you can’t go to the gym or swimming
No you can’t go visit your elderly parents with your children
No you can’t go to the playground
No you can’t have a play date
And so on and so forth.

If you have to go to work go and then go home. If you want to exercise go for a run on your own or exercise at home on your own. If you go to get food please be very careful and only go if essential.

PLEASE START TAKING THIS SERIOUSLY

There are no online delivery slots left so next week people will need food. I should imagine there will be people in supermarkets with their dc because they cannot stand being at home all the time.

I'm not convinced they will self isolate with their dc or perhaps they cannot as they are single etc?

PointeShoesandTutus · 20/03/2020 14:06

Ah. Noted about playgrounds. We did wash hands before and after, but didn’t think about surfaces. Lesson learned.

DontCallMeShitley · 20/03/2020 14:07

Just watched young neighbours opposite loading their car with suitcases. I know they have a relative that is a wheelchair user who rarely visits and am hoping not because relative is ill, maybe needs care.

Then again they like to party so who knows, maybe going for a holiday to the coast to kill off some pensioners.

Devlesko · 20/03/2020 14:10

I've stopped worrying now.
If they don't self isolate they'll be the ones in ICU whilst we're sat at home fit and healthy.
It's a shame they infect others going about their essential work, though.
I'm applying for jobs and can't stay at home because both me and dh have lost all our work, our business has gone and we have zero income.
Online surveys just isn't going to cut it.

happymummy12345 · 20/03/2020 14:15

My husband is a chef and he is still going to work (just). It's all well and good people saying avoid restaurants but he relies on customers walking through the door to pay his wages. As it is all staff are down on hours as there are way less customers than usual. Unless they are told they have to close he has no option but to hope they continue to come in. I'm a SAHM so we rely on his income to survive and tbh we only just get by as it is. Believe me if he could stay at home he would but the reality is he needs to work for as long as possible.

Funnyface1 · 20/03/2020 14:16

Why are places like Tenpin bowling still allowed to operate. Touching bowling balls and arcade machines seems ridiculous. But while they stay open people will continue to go because their options are getting more and more limited. If I had Twitter I would tweet about it.

RuffleCrow · 20/03/2020 14:20

Oh piss of. There's no lockdown in the uk. There's no ban on going to the park or the hairdresser! Perhaps lockdown like you're clearly gunning for will happen soon. If so, i'll make the most of my last little bit of freedom, you authoritarian-sounding person.

bigchris · 20/03/2020 14:21

I'm still going to work

Yes I go to the cafe in my lunch hour

Yes I'll be taking my kids for walks at the weekend because it's healthy

They'll have to come to the supermarket with me because no slots available and we can't starve

That's not the same as going to clubs and pubs

Oh and I need public transport to get to work so frankly pissed off that Sunday services are now being proposed

@plarkin if your mum wasn't meant to go to her appointment the hospital would have cancelled it

RuffleCrow · 20/03/2020 14:21

*off

Nquartz · 20/03/2020 14:22

I keep seeing stuff about 'seeing granny before the lock down of over 70s starts' so people presumably think it's starting this weekend for some reason

happymummy12345 · 20/03/2020 14:22

Plus I'm more likely to get symptoms in a busy supermarket than I am in a room just my beautician and I.
I have two appointments booked for nails and eyebrows, one Thursday 26th March and the second Thursday 9th April. If I can go I WILL be going. Good hygiene is practiced anyway and the salon is adhering to extra precautions at this time. She is self employed and will struggle I'm sure if she is unable to work, especially as businesses have not yet been told they have to close.
As I've said before if that makes me stupid or selfish then so be it (I don't care for the opinion of strangers anyway), also stupid selfish people going to the restaurant my husband works in are making sure my son has food to eat, heat in the house and so on. Please think of those who won't get paid without the selfish people, which is also why I will attend my appointments if I am able to

bigchris · 20/03/2020 14:22

Thank you @RuffleCrow perfectly put , nothing wrong with a fit not at risk under 70 year old going to an open hairdreser

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 20/03/2020 14:26

My mother literally just told me she had been to a completely non essential hospital appointment and seemed surprised that it was deserted! After I told her NOT TO GO because it wasn't necessary. Honestly I am fuming....

If the hospital didn’t want her to go they would have cancelled. Are you better informed and qualified than the hospital?

woodhill · 20/03/2020 14:27

I think that is fair enough happy and yes good hygiene will be practiced.

My silly dm went to the hairdresser at nearly 80😕 but tells us they are self isolating

frillyfarmer · 20/03/2020 14:27

"I keep seeing stuff about 'seeing granny before the lock down of over 70s starts' so people presumably think it's starting this weekend for some reason"

Same - it's so mindlessly stupid! I have a newborn and a toddler, we are still going on lots of dog walks but luckily we're very remote. Due to newborn I haven't seen anyone for the best part of 12 days since coming out of hospital which has been dreamy - as farmers I feel as though we have been gearing up for self isolation for years 😂

Stay safe everyone!

frillyfarmer · 20/03/2020 14:29

@ChardonnaysPetDragon but if it's non essential and the advice is social distancing/ self isolation, why wouldn't you cancel. I cancelled my newborns hearing screening at the county hospital who have confirmed CV cases. The midwife made me feel like a terrible mother for doing it. Personally I think protecting us from CV trumps a hearing test which can be rearranged for another day.

happymumof22019 · 20/03/2020 14:30

I agree these people who won’t reduce their contact are the ones that are going to end up making us lock down. Local shops are busier than ever, work mates going out for lunches, not working from home when they can, these people need to get real. Boris needs to take more action or it is never going to happen at this rate.

RuffleCrow · 20/03/2020 14:35

Some people don't understand the positive benefits fresh air, basic social interaction and excercise have on the immune system. Hmm

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 20/03/2020 14:37

I suppose cancelling is at least better than just not going.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 20/03/2020 14:38

Lots of people are ignoring it where I am because there are only 3 cases in the whole (very large) town.

InfiniteSheldon · 20/03/2020 14:40

My dh is still working doing outdoor building work he's just been into a suppliers with all precautions and there was a woman in there with three kids running around she seemed oblivious and obviously doesn't care whose livelihood she puts at risk whilst she bought play sand and paints

Iggly · 20/03/2020 14:42

People ignore it don’t realise that it spreads before people have any symptoms.

By the time you get to the coughing and fever stage you’ve probably spread it to loss of people.

Some people show no symptoms at all and spread it.

This government is being negligent by not having a proper public health campaign.

Evenstar · 20/03/2020 14:44

I met my neighbour (keeping a long way apart) as I was taking my dogs out. She had latex gloves on, I asked her if she was working today as she is a cleaner. “Oh no” she replied “I’m just going to the nail bar, but I wanted to be careful about touching the door handle in case of the virus” 😮

burritofan · 20/03/2020 14:45

Some people don't understand the positive benefits fresh air, basic social interaction and excercise have on the immune system.
Ah, you're just winding people up, I see. Because no one would really believe that "basic social interaction" is a cure for an incredibly contagious virus that's transmitted through basic social interaction and has killed 10,000 people.

ViciousJackdaw · 20/03/2020 14:46

Piss off yourself, this has sweet FA to do with authoritarianism and everything to do with stopping the spread of CV. l know you couldn't give a shit about it but plenty of people do.
