No you can’t meet your friend for coffee
No you can’t get your hair done
No you can’t go to pub or restaurant
No you can’t go to the gym or swimming
No you can’t go visit your elderly parents with your children
No you can’t go to the playground
No you can’t have a play date
And so on and so forth.

If you have to go to work go and then go home. If you want to exercise go for a run on your own or exercise at home on your own. If you go to get food please be very careful and only go if essential.

PLEASE START TAKING THIS SERIOUSLY

STAY AT HOME

My DH who works for local council has just had an argument with a Woman in a playground, she had 3 children playing on swings, said she was supposed to be self isolating but the kids were "doing her head in at home" I despair!!!!!

Themaraudersmap · 20/03/2020 09:29

This is why we need a lockdown. A woman on another thread here went to get a pedicure and her wax done Hmm - essential tasks there.

Its ridiculous how much people are ignoring. Then here I am sat wondering if we should even go for a walk.

ViciousJackdaw · 20/03/2020 13:00

B..b...but little Balonz neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeds to see his friends, his childhood is being STOLEN!

janelmac · 20/03/2020 13:01

I've just been for a long walk. The cafes in the high street are packed, mostly with mums and children, school age and younger. The message just isn't getting through.

nogoodusernames · 20/03/2020 13:02

So according to that going for a walk, going for a jog and going for a drive are all ok?

PatchworkElmer · 20/03/2020 13:05

I’ve been running alone in the evenings- it’s been mega quiet but last night it was incredibly busy in my route- never seen it like that before. I think that people are starting to absorb it- but I’m now wondering if I need to stop using that route to avoid others!

Kamma89 · 20/03/2020 13:09

Local high street packed. Mainly older people pottering about. Not in any way stocking up on essentials ahead of a lock down period. I really hope they're aware the Italian's are in some areas not ventilating anyone over 60, and the Italians have a lot more ventilators than us...

Lamentations · 20/03/2020 13:21

Vowel that all sounds a bit Afghanistan circa 2001, men berating women for daring to be out in public. Good grief.

It is not illegal to go outside. We can be respectful of each other's health AND choices.

allhailthegingerninja · 20/03/2020 13:24

@Lamentations well clearly we're not all respectful of everyone's health, are we? That wasn't a sexism issue, it was a stupid bloody human issue.

Which I'd exactly why we need lockdown!

Lamentations · 20/03/2020 13:32

Yes but the schools are still open today and we are not on lockdown so nobody should be arguing with strangers about whether they are 'allowed' to be out in public.

PointeShoesandTutus · 20/03/2020 13:32

We’ve been staying at home, aside from me going to work (as a key worker).

Today I’ve driven around various villages until I found a deserted playground (we drove past playgrounds if someone was already playing) and let my DD have a run about. I see this as her form of exercise. I thought that was ok, but posts about no playgrounds have me worried?!

PumpkinP · 20/03/2020 13:34

It sounds like the woman was the only one in the playground so I don’t get the big deal tbh! It’s my sons birthday on Sunday so I’m going to get him a cake and a present, might not be essential but the schools are still on so can’t see the massive difference.

Notonmyshift · 20/03/2020 13:37

It will get worse once the schools close.
People are not doing it voluntarily!

plarkin · 20/03/2020 13:37

My mother literally just told me she had been to a completely non essential hospital appointment and seemed surprised that it was deserted! After I told her NOT TO GO because it wasn't necessary. Honestly I am fuming....

plarkin · 20/03/2020 13:39

The waiting room for blood tests was deserted I mean...

Badskinday · 20/03/2020 13:39

@nogoodusernames yes on your own you can go for a walk or jog and you can go for a drive but not leave your car. Ie drive to a beach or viewing point and sit in your car.

day1intheisolationhouse · 20/03/2020 13:44

Playgrounds are not OK because Covid19 survives on surfaces.

If kids with Covid19 have it and have left it on the play equipment, or parents sitting on the benches, then you can catch it.

Similarly you may be leaving the infection there for the next people who go there, after you leave.

We went for a walk in a deserted open area to get exercise as we've been cooped up since Tuesday. DS is showing possible symptoms so we took extra care not to touch anything. Although we didn't get within 50 yards of another human being, we still didn't for example sit on benches in case we left the virus there for someone else.

day1intheisolationhouse · 20/03/2020 13:46

might not be essential but the schools are still on so can’t see the massive difference

It makes a difference as we're all links in the chain, which the virus uses to spread.

If you break a link by not going to the shops you could literally be saving lives. If you go, infect some people and they infect more people, then you could be responsible for infecting someone vulnerable.

That kids are at school down the road is irrelevant to that particular link you just chose to make (or refrain form making).

StarbucksSmarterSister · 20/03/2020 13:49

I have a friend in her late 60s, with asthma. She is also very overweight (both classed as underlying conditions). She lives in a London suburb and went swimming yesterday and to an exercise class earlier in the week. She also went to a shopping centre with a friend "only one shop for something specific and it was incredibly quiet " .

I am gobsmacked, she is normally so sensible.

CoolcoolcoolcoolcoolNoDoubt · 20/03/2020 13:50

Absolutely right OP.

I have ventured out in the car today to pick up a prescription I need to manage my condition, and to pick up stuff from my office for working at home. Haven't been out for a week. The amount of people in my city centre living their normal lives, getting on the bus, in cafes, shopping etc is outrageous. A lockdown is needed because people are not listening!

Those thousands of people I saw when driving around must not know anyone at greater risk of contracting the disease.. or anyone over 70. That must be it.. Hmm

There are absolutely heroic key workers in the UK battling this on our behalf, the lucky rest of us need to make their sacrifices worth it.

cantdothisnow1 · 20/03/2020 13:50

Badskinday I'm not planning to do this but why can't you drive to a beach and go for a walk on it on your own? How is that different from going for a walk on your own normally?

dontaskformedicaladviceonmn · 20/03/2020 13:50

And all the people still mixing with others will probably get the mildest symptoms while the poor unfortunate people they pass it to end up really ill

themuminator · 20/03/2020 13:54

My mum is insisting on going to aquafit tomorrow. FFS.

I'm really angry at her. I mean it's her choice but she's saying that the chlorine will mean she won't get Corona or pass it on... No idea about a lot of people huffing and puffing in a small space etc.

I don't know what makes her think the rules don't apply to her.

PumpkinP · 20/03/2020 13:55

So I should just tell him that his birthday is cancelled then? I’m going to the shop anyway as need washing powder (which didn’t turn up in my online shop) maybe I should just not wash my clothes either Hmm
