Am I a key worker?

Can I ask for advice, don’t want to clutch at straw here but would you say I would qualify for a key role? I work in the supply chain, for the offshore oil industry, I manage the North Sea and supply hydraulic fluid to enable the oil rigs to produce oil, I also manage Europe, which has been a nightmare because of what’s happening, I thought key workers was NHS staff etc, but my industry is oil and gas, do you think they mean people who work on the rigs? However, they wouldn’t be able to produce without the fluid I supply?
I'm a single mum to 2, although I can work from home, I would not be able to do this with an 8 year old and a 3 year old. I can manage with the 8 year old not as school, but nursery want to close but stay open for key workers only, although I would save on childcare, with him being at home with me, I just see how it's possible for me to work, home school and take care of the little one :( it's not like I have a partner to here to help me. Am I being selfish on the little one and to ask the question of key workers to the nursery? It's not like this is a week max thing, we don't know how long this will continue for :(

Am I a key worker?

It says the oil sector, so I'd say yes - absolutely not selfish to consider it.

I think you'd count as infrastructure to a vital industry. We'd all soon know about it if oil production stopped!

I think it's well worth pushing for key worker status. Good luck!

I don't want to come across as very important as the NHS are key for us to get through this, but I think My role is key for other reasons, someone could try and take over from me, but my only other cover is an near retirement age and is working from home and she is struggling to cope with her workload, and I may have to take some of her work to help her. Like I said the 8 year old is fine and I can home school him but defo not the 3 year old who is challenging in normal circumstances, he never keeps still and we won't be able to go anywhere.
Yes the oil industry is very important, if a rig closes down for even an hour it cost a lot of money :( Iv had to helicopter fluid to a rig before in case of a shut down. They are also ordering a lot more products too during this outbreak, even The Italy customers have allowed us entry into their warehouses as the fluid is vital for them, I will ask the question and see what they say, thanks

Sounds like you should send the kids to school to me and keep the rigs pumping.

Key workers are people who are essential keep the country going. That's going to involve a whole lot more than medical staff! We have them to thank for keeping us alive, so they are extra-essential Smile

Just spoke to them and I am a key worker as I work in the oil and gas industry, phew least I now don't have to worry about entertaining them both at the same time. Thanks everyone x
