Just had this email through. I am so relieved! Is everyone else in the same situation or are you still being charged?

We had a message through from DD's nursery yesterday afternoon confirming they would be closing except for children of key workers etc and that all other families would not be charged during the closure. Slightly suprised about it as I've heard that most nurseries were still going to be charging fees

They really should not charge. They are a business and if they cannot offer a service how can they charge for it

We've been asked to still pay, the nursery say there is not yet clarity on whether they should close our must close. They've said if we're having our own financial difficulties then we should get in touch to discuss. I'm likely to take a reduction in hours as my company is being hit hard, so I'll probably ask for a reduction in fees. Hornet my view is that if I can afford to pay then it is probably the right thing to do, the nursery will need to be there and the staff will need to be ready to work at full capacity when it opens. Noone benefits if everything closes down. For me at the moment the main problem is I don't rant to be one of the only suckers paying if noone else does and the nursery closes anyway. Happy to admit that's a fairly small problem to have at the moment. Time will tell how serious it is for my job, but at least I get gov finding from Sep so I only have to pay for a few months. I could always stop paying and lose my place, good to have that option

Ours are still trying to work out what to do. Their insurers are refusing to pick up the phone to even talk to them so they’re in a panic.

Elephantonascooter · 20/03/2020 08:21

Ours have asked everyone to pay 1 session a week to keep the nursery open and there for staff and children to return to but we've been told these will be banked and taken off our fees when the kids are back. So if this goes on for 2 months, June's fees will be minus 8 sessions. We were more than happy to agree to that and, if we can afford it, will be only taking half the 'banked' days and giving them the other half.the staff have also made a list of parents who require baby sitters and are getting in touch when they arnt rota'd to work at the nursery for children of key workers

Ours have said we still need to pay. I have chosen to keep DD off so fair enough i guess. I want the nursery to able to open again once this all over and the staff to be paid. Selfishly it would be a pressure off to not have the bill though
