He's 4, has a bit of a cough, high temperature - has thrown up several times, from the fever I think. Asleep now, quite fast breathing, hot to the touch. We're self-isolating obviously.

Don't know if it's Covid or not, and no way of knowing. I feel scared. Feel like I no longer have the safety net of emergency services at the other end of a phone because I can't take him in unless he's really bad. I know kids aren't supposed to get this badly but have freaked myself out reading studies of kids who got it in China. I don't want him to end up with a severe case.

DH has a cough too, is trying to sleep in the other room. Feel shivery myself but probably just working myself up.

Hey you. Daffodil Imagine CV wasn't happening. You would respond to the symptoms. Calpol, cool flannels, fluids etc. Just do the same, keep him comfy. The most likely outcome is that he will be ok. You're doing a great job, I'm sure he will recover soon. And self isolate like a bastard!

Piixxiiee · 19/03/2020 23:41

Were the same. My 4 year old ds is next to me in bed. Temp of over 38 after calpol. 111 said hes safer at home, than mixing with any health care workers but would sens an ambulance if "I wanted to risk it".

Hes had a cold since weekend, dh and I have had shivers, fever, headaches, dh full of cold, diarrhoea. Slight cough but nothing major.... not sure if it it or another bug and massive coincidence .... self isolating since Friday... thought the kids had got away with it lightly but now scared listening to him wheeze though his temperature....

tattychicken thank you, really appreciate your reply. One thing I feel bad about is we couldn't get any calpol around here as it's all been bought up so I had to give baby ibuprofen, even though it's against some guidance, because it seemed important to bring his fever down and it's all we had in the house. Can't even get his temp accurately because our thermometer broke and I couldn't find one online to buy. We will defs self isolate for the 14 days. Took him out of nursery on Mon but seems like he still picked it - or something else - up before I did.

Piixxiiee I'm so sorry, it's shit isn't it. It's stressful not knowing whether it's cv or not, I suppose it wouldn't make much difference anyway, but I wish I did know. The fear when kids are ill is the most horrible feeling. Feel like I should be doing something but nothing to do but wait and see I hope. Really hope your DS feels better soon, and you as well.

How's he doing now?

Escapetab · 22/03/2020 20:40

Thank you for asking! He's still unwell but seems a bit better, called 111 last night and they ended up sending a doctor out. Said they think it's corona but can't be sure of course, gave us some calpol and antibiotics - in case of a secondary infection I guess? Husband is quite bad with it now but neither of them have breathing difficulties just the cough and other symptoms. What worries me is it seems like it can play out over a while and people can seem to get better and then suddenly get very bad. So am anxious. But just have to hang in there and hope that doesn't happen. I still don't have it, feel a bit off but just from lack of sleep I think.
