Italy on sky news

I just watched a report from Italy on sky news. If anybody thinks that This is not serious and we are not going to get the same as Italy without uk lockdown they should watch the report. So frightening how overwhelmed the hospitals are and so many people not able to breath. Italy had the same deaths as us 2 weeks ago. Please people don’t go out and socialise. Protect yourselves and your family. Doctors in Italy are urging us to lockdown now

You are absolutely right OP but so many people have their heads stuck in the sand here. You just have to read some of the threads about "Can I still meet my friends for coffee/go to the hairdressers" etc. I'm dumbfounded at how in denial people are.

Inkpaperstars · 19/03/2020 22:42

Yes I saw it, terrifying. Still shaking.

RhubarbTea · 19/03/2020 22:48

I only caught a bit of it but I have seen from many news sources the situation there. You are wise to be concerned. That will be us - or worse - in two weeks or so. Horrifying.

Deux · 19/03/2020 22:52

If it was anything like they showed on C4 news, it was horrifying. A patient visited at home who needed a ventilator but they didn’t have any, coffins lined up in churches. Awful.

TheWristBoundLatexBitch · 19/03/2020 22:53

I'm in full on anxiety. My daughter is in bits because she may not finish primary and begging me to go to school after tomorrow and I just keep seeing that we are two weeks behind Italy. I don't know what to do 😭 I'm staying clam for my children but inside, I'm in full on panic mode and scared

indemMUND · 19/03/2020 22:59

UK lockdown needs to happen. People aren't taking this seriously. Though I fear that if the the government do actually step it up the ignorant will use it as an excuse for anarchy. It wouldn't take much in the area I live in unfortunately.

RhubarbTea · 19/03/2020 23:04

The report is on again for the 11 O Clock news on sky. Oh fuck. Sad

JuliaDomna · 19/03/2020 23:06

Good post. When it hits us being 'plucky brits' isn't going to help. I have been reading some of the threads posted by NHS staff. They don't have enough protection or equipment and will be working above and beyond to save the lives of those affected. We must all play our part too, by following the guidance.

lubeybooby · 19/03/2020 23:11

and we haven't even locked down despite actually having a crystal ball to see whats coming, in the form of maths and a case in point - Italy.

Our response being so sluggish means we will have it worse. I absolutely despair.

Bellag79 · 19/03/2020 23:21

I have a very close family member working frontline NHS currently showing symptoms and being told to get back to work after 7 days if they feel ok.

Mumblechum0 · 19/03/2020 23:24

Dh and I both have CV. It is horrendous. I had no idea how poorly you can get.

We went into self isolation as soon as dh got a fever on Saturday night and we will be staying in till 29th March, but friends are contacting me asking if I want to go for a walk/coffee shop with them etc 😡.

I was worried that I could have passed it on on Friday night in the pub but it doesn't look it, and no one else in the village has it, thank God.

Cofused12273625 · 19/03/2020 23:26

It’s out of control now. Johnson and his team have said we need more ventilators. A good result is 20,000 will die as quoted by one of them. Christ knows what a bad result will look like. People need to wake up and start acting responsibly. They really need to shut pubs and restaurants now. I walked past one before with the dog and it was very busy. It’s like people are just hoping this will go away

Northernsoullover · 19/03/2020 23:27

@Mumblechum0 if Friday just gone people may still be incubating it. If they aren't socially distancing they will be spreading it.

AliBear90 · 19/03/2020 23:30

@Mumblechum0 please please tell me your friends asking you that at least don’t know you have it. I hope you all feel better soon. Xx

TKAAHUARTG · 19/03/2020 23:32

Did you test positive Mumblechum? I was tested yesterday. (Not UK) Whatever I have is pretty grim but I think more likely just a cold/chest infection.

Mumblechum0 · 19/03/2020 23:33

@alibear, nope, this is 2 of my village friends who know we have it, because I posted on the village FB to warn anyone who's been in contact with us to be extra vigilant, avoid seeing elderly parents etc

CeibaTree · 19/03/2020 23:38

I am dreading going into lockdown, but I now think it's the only reasonable course of action - or at least the government orders pubs, cafes etc to close.

AliBear90 · 19/03/2020 23:39

I think we need lockdown here ASAP
