Germany stats / Death certificate pondering

How are Germanyy managing to keep their death rate so low in comparison? Sorry if I have missed any links to this.

Also, if a person with pre existing medical conditions what do you think is put on the death certificate for cause of death? I suppose I’m wondering if it’s someone with a lung condition that’s accelerated because of the illness would it be COPD, for example or just simply COVID-19?

Based on the guidelines below

1(a) Disease or condition leading directly to death:
1(b) Other disease or condition if any, leading to I(a):
1(c) other disease or condition, if any, leading to I(b):

II Other significant conditions Contributing to death but not related to the disease orcondition causing itL

I would assume based on that....

1a) COPD
1b)(possible other comorbidity)
1c)

  1. Coronavirus

.... wlthough don't quote me on that. I'm not a Doctor but worked in a setting which assisted in families getting their medical certificates for deceased relatives.

To be fair, Germany do most things better than us! If it's not the football ...

Who would you rather have as your PM right now?

We could probably learn a thing or two from our near neighbours

They don't test post mortem

They have 5x the number of intensive care beds we do

Is what I read anyway as the main 2 reasons. Don't know how true it is

Watching with interest... I wondered the same re Germany....

They have an excellent health service which has not yet reached capacity. As I understand it, its when critical care beds reach capacity that the death rate starts to shoot up.

l am more familiar with Switzerland where I live. But there are compatable stats - lowish death rate compared to number of cases. The paper said this evening that there are 160 intensive care beds left. The number of cases relative to the poulation size is very high. I'm not sure why that is; popular opinion is that we closed the borders too late.
