People need to stop saying we are 14 days behind Italy we are on a different trajectory

@Didkdt can you explain why we might be on a different trajectory. I am really scared for us all right now.

LottieBees19 · 19/03/2020 22:31

I'm not scared for myself , I'm scared for all the ICU staff in London, for my family in London and other people's families. If you crunch the numbers it not good.

LINABE · 19/03/2020 22:31

TheCanterburyWhales...
Thank you so much for your post
You have said it better than me as I'm too emotional at the moment
Stay safe

Derbygerbil · 19/03/2020 22:32

I dont think we should be scared, scared people do stupid shit. We need to be well informed and prepare for whatever may come our way.

Fear is a rational and sensible reaction to what’s unfolding.... Fear doesn’t necessarily mean panic, but rather it can mean we are more likely to act responsibly.

NotDisclosedToday · 19/03/2020 22:33

Oh do shutup about scaremongering this and scaremongering that. Its going to be really shit for months. If you cant deal with that get off the internet.

tryingtoprep · 19/03/2020 22:33

@Didkdt You say Londoners should be responsible for their own social distancing. It's like drink driving. The irresponsible ones are putting others as well as themselves at risk. Why should elderly and other vulnerable Londoners - and NHS staff - suffer because of the ones who refuse to heed advice? It's not scaremongering to warn people. Far worse is what's currently happening. The government's (in)actions leading stupid (or scared in denial) people to assume things can't be that bad or else the UK would do what much of the rest of the world is doing - lockdown.

Delatron · 19/03/2020 22:33

But people are not social distancing. I think it takes being a bit scared to change your behaviour. Not panicked scared but worried and therefore they may educate themselves more.

tryingtoprep · 19/03/2020 22:34

Exactly what @Delatron says.

LINABE · 19/03/2020 22:40

Delatron
I couldn't agree with you more.
To the other posters who are in Denial and accusing people of scaremongering - you are the ones that bother me the most. You are the ones that will help spread this virus.
Thank you to the posters who see it how it really is.

ilovesooty · 19/03/2020 22:50

I am behaving responsibly. I am not helping to spread this virus . I don't need people being emotionally incontinent, shouting and posting in disjointed sentences to convince me to do what I need to do to be a decent citizen.

TheCanterburyWhales · 19/03/2020 22:53

Linabe- last weekend I left MN after being hounded off a thread and called a scaremongerer and a liar. Because I quoted the exact figures for Italy.
The fact that today it's the poster bollocking others and slinking off goes some way to show how the tide has turned since last weekend.
I was called a despicable liar and accused of wanting to frighten my own children because I pointed out as of last Friday the death rate in Italy was 7.2% and Saturday 5.9%
Today it's over 8%
And the UK trajectory is looking like being higher.
Look after yourselves- Italy hasn't reached peak contagion yet and look at it.

LINABE · 19/03/2020 22:55

I'm not trying to convince you personally to do anything. If you dont like it go somewhere else.

Derbygerbil · 19/03/2020 22:56

@ilovesooty

That’s good... but many people aren’t. People are rightly frightened by the consequences and their responses will be emotional as a result. Telling people to stop being emotional is trying to deny the validity of their perfectly reasonable response to this crisis.

A bit of fear is good and natural in a situation like this.

littlejalapeno · 19/03/2020 22:58

I agree with you OP.

And mumsnet has a lot more people being stupid and lashing out at each other than ever before. It’s become toxic and nasty and it’s not what is needed right now

I’m just amazed that anyone could think that letting London blithely carry on as it seems to be at the moment into next week can have a good outcome.... How exactly?!

OP posts:
Delatron · 19/03/2020 23:00

Unfortunately there’s a lot of people with their heads in the sand. Most of them are currently in the pub.
I don’t mind saying I’m scared. Not for myself but for the elderly and those with compromised immune systems. We don’t have the capacity in hospitals right now. My medic friends are terrified. I’m listening to them and changing my behaviour.
Nobody is scaremongering here.

tryingtoprep · 19/03/2020 23:01

What do you mean by scum? If you mean criminals and gangs, cities worldwide have this problem - yet they managed to lockdown.

timeisnotaline · 19/03/2020 23:04

I am behaving responsibly. I am not helping to spread this virus . I don't need people being emotionally incontinent, shouting and posting in disjointed sentences to convince me to do what I need to do to be a decent citizen.
So instead of taking it so personally can’t you just think I’m doing the right thing and the op is trying to get through to the I’ll be right idiots? Because people aren’t behaving responsibly so all the rhetoric about ‘people need to behave responsibly not be lectured’ is just meaningless. Find a way to make them behave responsibly if you really think that’s the way to go.

ilovesooty · 19/03/2020 23:04

If you don't like it go somewhere else

You don't get to tell me where I can and cannot post , within talk guidelines.

justasking111 · 19/03/2020 23:06

Perhaps we need a lockdown to protect the stupid from themselves and give the rest of the population a better chance.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 19/03/2020 23:06

Scum?

Nice Angry

This is reality now in Lombardy... If we get to next week without much firmer action, I fear it will be even worse here.

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/world/2020/mar/19/generation-has-died-italian-province-struggles-bury-coronavirus-dead

I actually think the Government will put us into a lockdown similar to much of Europe... They’ll announce tomorrow or Saturday, and it’ll happen very quickly when it does.

NeckPainChairSearch · 19/03/2020 23:09

I'm avoiding MN bunfights, but the title of the OP's post is true. Boris is letting London down very, very badly by not taking the reins of this.

As long as people have choice, a good few will make wrong, selfish choices, and it will lead to more people dying.

It couldn't be more fucking serious.
