Will private nurseries have to shut?

I can’t seem to find a definite answer. We know that schools will be shut from tomorrow but what about private nurseries? Do they have to follow that guidance?

Thank you

They usually email you to inform you if / when they'll shut. It is inevitable though...

shirleyschmidt · 19/03/2020 18:22

I don't know if they have to, but ours has confirmed they are "following the guidance" and will be shut as of Monday.

DH and I both work in jobs that can be done easily from home, but our companies seem reluctant to follow the govt advice so we're in a bit of an awkward situation, under pressure to be visible in the office but now with very young kids to sort out 😫
I'm wondering whether our nursery intends to continue charging in full. I suppose they'll have to if the govt doesn't take steps to subsidize it during the closure. There doesn't seem to be much info about this yet, hopefully some reassurance to come 🤞

Ours closed this afternoon ☹️

Thanks all

Ours is insisting they are staying open. I think it's because they have realized that their terms don't allow them to continue to charge if they have to shut. I'm giving notice and pulling my son out anyway.

SpiltMilk100 · 19/03/2020 18:55

Ours have emailed to say that they're remaining open but offering 22.5% discount. Also offering to take other kids up to 8yo for parents struggling with school closures 🙄

BluntAndToThePoint80 · 19/03/2020 18:55

Ours has closed to all except key workers kids from Monday.

BackyardChickens · 19/03/2020 19:02

So nurseries do not have to shut like schools do?

Ours is closing tomorrow. No charge while closed. Staff won't get paid unfortunately.

moobar · 19/03/2020 19:11

Ours seems to be as @BumbleNova and saying they are staying open.....

Otterses · 19/03/2020 19:16

Ours closes tomorrow unless a child has two key worker parents.

riddles26 · 19/03/2020 19:22

Ours is shut for all, even if parents are key workers. They are private so no obligation to stay open.
Makes life extremely hard for us as I am key worker, DH isn't but we need his salary to survive so will be unpaid leave for me. He earns double based on full time salaries and I'm part time so pro-rata anyway. Financially we can't live if he doesn't work :(

The ones disregarding the PM’s advice will surely be forced to shut soon I guess?
