Ours is closing on Monday!

Just thought I'd let you know in case, like me, you rely on them for books etc.

thank you for the heads up OP. have a look at the openlibrary.org website, you can borrow audio books virtually to listen to on your phone, and some books have downloadable print versions to borrow too x

FuzzyPuffling · 19/03/2020 18:10

Ours has closed already, along with al the other council-run facilities. Sad, but probably the best thing for now.

WeakandWobbly · 19/03/2020 18:15

For those whose libraries are still open, grab an armful of books for your dcs before they close, which will be this weekend or Monday . You can keep them until end of June!!

TheGreatWave · 19/03/2020 18:18

Ours closed yesterday, when it wasn't actually open. Which is a bummer as I meant to go Tuesday and forgot, saw the books yesterday morning and thought I could go today, then the council announced they were closed.

minipie · 19/03/2020 18:22

I use the Libby app which allows card holders of some libraries to borrow e books and audiobooks.

Bloodybridget · 19/03/2020 18:25

In my London borough all the libraries remain open. I think it's madness. They must be the perfect environment for infection spread.

Saladd0dger · 19/03/2020 18:27

Ours has also already closed ☹️

notchickenagain · 19/03/2020 19:00

Good for me in a way. I keep borrowing murders and thrillers from the library but I have untold African history books and autobiographies at home in a pile by my bed never touched!

goldenorbspider · 19/03/2020 19:39

BorrowBox! It's completely free. Lots of audiobooks and ebooks

goldenorbspider · 19/03/2020 19:39

You just need your library card and PIN number

pigsDOfly · 19/03/2020 19:44

I went at the beginning of the week and took out about 14 books.

Had an email from them today saying that they're upping the maximum to 30 and you can keep them until June. Might pay them another visit tomorrow.

Linnet · 19/03/2020 19:45

All libraries in my area closed on Tuesday. You can access books/ebooks/magazines/newspaper online through the library website though. Any books out on cards have been extended until the end of April but may be extended again depending on how things are going.

halcyondays · 19/03/2020 19:48

Ours is closing tomorrow. Went today and got out a lot of books. It’s a big library and people were keeping their distance. Some in other council areas have already closed.

Ours has Overdrive for ebooks and audiobooks.

halcyondays · 19/03/2020 19:49

And magazines.

halcyondays · 19/03/2020 19:50

I plan to self isolate the books for a couple of weeks although tbh I usually do this anyway.

BackforGood · 19/03/2020 20:43

Thanks @sleepismysuperpower1
Not come across them

CuriousaboutSamphire · 20/03/2020 07:17

Ooh! Library App is a good shout. Thanks for the reminder Smile

Thank you! Planning on going today to stock up for DD. I'll make do with my kindle and the stash I've got left from Christmas.

Talisin · 20/03/2020 07:47

This website tries to keep a list of library closures up to date.

SushiGo · 20/03/2020 07:48

Some libraries have digital borrowing options. Northamptonshire's is called BorrowBox.
