Key Worker?

Hi all,

So after yesterday's announcement re schools closing from Friday I telephoned my boss to discuss the implications of this on my work and he has informed me I am a key worker and therefore kids can still go to school.

I am unsure if I am or not, I work for the local council in Environmental Health... we were not on the list provided by BJ.

I have spoken to the school to clarify and they can't tell me- need me to tell them if I am a key worker or not and urgently.

What do you think and how do I find out?

Also if I am considered a key worker how would it work if I share 50/50 custody with someone who is not? Would my key worker status be enough to keep them in school or would they expect the kids to stay home with EXDH?

Our own arrangement is that kids stay with me FT right now as he is more vulnerable and in case of a total lock down.

Ta x

Apparently the definitive list of key workers has not yet been released (due to be later today), however I've attached a photo of a historic list I found and going by that, I don't think you'd be classed as a key worker.

I'm sorry, I don't know about care for your DC but I'd imagine that if your exDH is within the vulnerable group then the kids would stay with you (for everyone's sake) x

Key Worker?

I am totally panicking about this now, I am a key worker in the nhs, DH is a structural engineer in agriculture and has no contact with other people so has been told to continue working until told otherwise, will not get paid if he goes off voluntarily and he makes a lot more money than me. Now I’m thinking I won’t be able to continue to send my children to school to allow me to work in getting really stressed out about it

TheCountessatHotelCortez · 19/03/2020 12:04

Obviously he cannot work from home

ScrumptiousBears · 19/03/2020 13:56

I know we have to wait and see but I've also heard both parents have to be key workers for the family to qualify.

FATEdestiny · 19/03/2020 14:04

If one parent is not a key worker, it will be expected that their children won't be in school.

My school has already text to say arrangements will be made for families where both parents are key workers.

FedUpWithThisToday · 19/03/2020 14:09

I'm a key worker. My DH is not.

How many kids have parents who are BOTH key workers? Hardly any I'd say! This key worker thing sounds like a grand gesture from Borris, bit if it's only for families where both parents are key workers, then it will help only very very few

Tatty101 · 19/03/2020 14:12

We need to prioritise childcare for those people though right?
If we have a family where both parents are nurses, I'd rather we had schools open for the kid there than a situation where one parent could wfh/take leave/take family leave.

This is literally a wartime situation.

TheCountessatHotelCortez · 19/03/2020 14:58

My husband has no cover for family leave so basically we will be unable to cover our bills and outgoings then

TheCountessatHotelCortez · 19/03/2020 15:00

So basically I will be taking the time off then

milkysmum · 19/03/2020 15:03

Does anyone know what time the key worker list is going to be released? I'm a nurse but no longer work for the NHS, I work for a private company as the manager of residential home for adults with mental health needs. I'm a single parent. I'm thinking I will qualify but all the list floating around keep suggesting NHS nurses so now I'm panicking a bit.

DS's headteacher emailed us the following:

The information I have just received from the Local Authority re Key workers is as follows -
'Teachers, social workers, police, healthcare, supermarket staff, armed forces personnel, delivery drivers, childcare workers and other staff working in schools.
There are likely to be other workers who identify as being essential to keeping services running and we will update the list accordingly.
