Coronavirus and Brexit

I laid awake at night thinking about this so just wanted to share my thoughts. If the virus brings economic bankruptcy and national debt, we will not be under the protection of the European Union for financial recovery.

There could not be a worst time to have split from the EU network. We really could be fucked.

I doubt many people beyond Mumsnet are that bothered about Brexit right now. What we’re facing at the moment is about a million times worse in terms of the economic impact it will have and loss of lives.

Yep. Brexit is going to be hugely expensive for the country (not an opinion, a fact) and is expected to take decades to recover from. I think it would be complete folly to go ahead with it now. At the very least we should ask for an extension.

Randomnessembraced · 19/03/2020 06:36

I suspect we will try and extend soon.

Have we not already Brexited on the 31 Jan?

Yes but I think if any thing has a chance of being used as a get out clause it's corona virus!

GirlYouHaveNoFaithInMedicine · 19/03/2020 06:46

There is no get out clause. We're out.

The only way back is to rejoin - probably on worse terms than we left, not least because we are economically not in great shape now.
