I’m sorry if this is an odd question but I’ve a cottage booked for a week in South Devon in June- I was really looking forward to it! With things the way they are do you think it will be safe to go by then? Thank you

Wait and see OP. There'll be new advice by June. I wouldn't cancel yet.

grandmasterstitch · 18/03/2020 15:48

There won't be any cottages to go to once this is over, no business for months over the summer period will be fatal

MissBPotter · 18/03/2020 15:49

@Princessfaffalot how rude. No need to come down on op for asking a reasonable question. She, like me, will lose a lot of money, annual leave etc if she cancels and it is a discussion board. I suggest you don’t comment if you want to just be nasty.

Beesisabuzzin · 18/03/2020 15:50

Anyone thinking of visiting the west country oner the next month or so - please don't. Devon has four hospitals. Cornwall has one hospital. All are stretched. Remember that if you become ill and need medical treatment you are increasing the burden on our local services.
STAY HOME!

Afaik here in the Lake District cottage prices have shot up and theyre coming in in droves already.

Perhaps they see their desire to all pile into a small town as ‘essential’.

Perhaps the rules don’t apply to them.

But it’s happening now, let alone in June.

June is far away in corona terms. A pretty booked holiday is another thing entirely. It’s those who are doing it now that shock me.

Lllot5 · 18/03/2020 15:51

I hold fire for now. Probably won’t be able to go anyway.

Musicforsmorks · 18/03/2020 15:51

Pre-booked holiday not pretty. Haha

TheLlamasPyjamas · 18/03/2020 15:51

No non essential travel. Do you need that translated into idiot?

No need for that is there. I'm sure it's the only chance you get to feel intelligent and superior but you just look like a twat.

LarryDuff · 18/03/2020 15:51

I've got the same idea Rocketmam I'm facing a long time stuck in a small house with tiny garden with a 5 year old, would it be so bad for us to stay in a cottage away from everyone for a week? seriously thinking of booking for early april

Musicforsmorks · 18/03/2020 15:52

I’m saying that self catering are NOT seeing any losses yet if they’re hiking prices up this week.

Beesisabuzzin · 18/03/2020 15:53

@Princessfaffalot is completely right. Why do people think rules apply to everyone else but not them! Do you need in in capital letters and crayons?

Musicforsmorks · 18/03/2020 15:54

So because YOU are bored in small house you are ok with potentially bringing illness to elderly and vulnerable in a.....rural setting?

user1497207191 · 18/03/2020 15:54

I wouldn't trust the cleaners to do a proper deep clean between guests. Lots do the job properly, but also lots are very sloppy and cut corners. No way of knowing which. We do 2 or 3 uk holiday homes each year and have had some pretty awful ones which we've virtually had to clean top to bottom ourselves because they were so bad.

LangClegsInSpace · 18/03/2020 15:54

Seriously everybody needs to stop this.

userxx · 18/03/2020 15:55

I'd wait until nearer the time, nobody has any idea how this is going to pan out.

Beesisabuzzin · 18/03/2020 15:55

@LarryDuff Yes it would be so bad. Dear god, do not travel! Do not visit another area and expect medical treatment if you become ill. It is completely selfish.

LarryDuff · 18/03/2020 15:55

how would I be spreading it if we don't leave the cottage and don't have any contact with anyone? (usually owners leave keys in a safe)

Ciwirocks · 18/03/2020 15:55

OP’s holiday is in June no one knows what the country will be like by then so it’s not an unreasonable question! We have a caravan booked for the end of July and I am not cancelling it yet. I am going to see how things pan out in the next couple of months, a lot can change in that time.

confused202 · 18/03/2020 15:55

@Beesisabuzzin I absolutely don’t think the rules apply to everyone but me. I’m not saying that I am going and I’m also not talking about next week.

But maybe up here in Ambleside were all immune to the virus, I mean we have less polluted air and lots of tucking sheep,so it’s ok, come and pile on, we can all enjoy the scenery and remain immune yay!

MarieQueenofScots · 18/03/2020 15:57

For all the chippy twats who are labouring under the misaprehension they're totes amusing, advice is changing DAILY.

There is little point cancelling anything at the moment, not least because holiday bookings places are inundated with people who have imminent bookings.

It is far better to hang fire and follow the advice AT THE TIME, not projecting March's advice to later in the year.

Musicforsmorks · 18/03/2020 15:57

Larryduff you will be in the tiny local supermarkets for food.

Surely?

We have two tiny shops, already stuffed full of tourists.

It is not a rural idylle it is very frustrating and over stuffed.

Musicforsmorks · 18/03/2020 15:59

My chippy twat ain’t on about June, it’s talking about now.
People running to cottages and bringing shit with them when we’ve all been told to keep distance.

A pre-booked holiday for June is reasonable in my opinion.

LarryDuff · 18/03/2020 16:00

Music no we would take our own food, there is absolutely no reason for us to see anyone. If one of us got ill we'd just go home, we're only talking about going about an hour from our house

userxx · 18/03/2020 16:02

A pre-booked holiday for June is reasonable in my opinion.

Errrrr well, that's what the op is asking about.
