The 7 day/14 day isolation query

DH is in NHS, got chest cough, isolated and so whole family isolated.
I know there's been some confusion about whether it's 7 days for the 1st poorly person or 14 days so thought I'd let you all know what he's been told today.
He spoke to the covid hub for his trust. They said the 1st poorly person is 7 days and other family members are 14 days to allow time for them to catch and also hopefully recover. So 7 days if you live alone and 7 days if you are the 1st in your household and recover within 7 days
