Lockdown - what the hell are we meant to do?

I know it's the right thing and there's no other alternative but I'm just panicking right now. I live with DP and our 4 year old in a flat in a city, we don't have a garden. DP and I both work and can continue to work from home easily but it will be such a struggle with a young child and no outside space. Will we literally not be allowed to go outside at all except for food? I am honestly freaking out right now.

We aren’t in lockdown.

chicken2015 · 18/03/2020 13:53

Im not sure its been said has it? Im notndure maybe in other countries u r allowed to get some air

IrenetheQuaint · 18/03/2020 13:53

Try not to panic yet as we have no idea what will be decided. Even in France people can go outside to exercise.

Medievalist · 18/03/2020 13:54

You can go out for walks, to the park etc. Just observe social distancing.

How long do we think this could last?

Ventilatorshortage · 18/03/2020 13:55

Please don't worry op.
They are considering mental health as well

Even in lock down most places allow you to go outside, just with social distancing!

Don't go to play park or anywhere with surfaces, national trust property gardens may be open for instance but not their cafe.

WhatTheHellHappenedArgh · 18/03/2020 13:57

Calm the fuck down and do your job in helping not to spread a pandemic - stay at home. Given you have the world on your internet, streaming services, etc... your reaction is completely ridiculous.

Oh go away, where have I said in any way that I would go out if told not to?

We aren’t in lockdown.

We absolutely will be imminently.

Oh do fuck off with the judgement. At no point did the OP say she wasn't going to stay at home and streaming services don't really help to keep a 4 year old entertained everyday for weeks.

Don't worry OP I feel the same. I live in a city centre flat with a 3 year old and soon to be newborn! The idea of not getting out is hellish. We all know we have to do it but doesn't mean it will be easy.

From what I have read other countries appear to be letting people out for exercise so we will see what happens here.

Why we can't just be nice to each other and understand that everyone has their own concerns and worries just now I don't know!

16more · 18/03/2020 14:01

You are not being silly to worry about this. It is very likely we will go into lockdown. I’m in a flat with a 19 month old and 9 year old so I’m just as anxious as you. If it helps I’ve bought some new toys, play doh art sets etc to hopefully keep them happy. It is what it is, no point panicking as it will pass and it’s for the best x

Thank you, your lovely response has brought tears to my eyes. I do not understand the viciousness of some on here. I have said I am dreading it and panicking - at no point have I said I will not comply.

I have relatives in Italy. They can go out to the shops, singly, while keeping their distance from other people. They can go for a walk, though not far. My relatives can work from home, but others can go into work.

MrsWolf2 · 18/03/2020 14:06

I don’t know what I’m going to do with my 16 month old either.

Have you seen Mumsnet have added a sticky thread about ideas for keeping kids entertained, I’m going to be keeping an eye on it.

AxisOfDick · 18/03/2020 14:07

I would have been horrified at the thought OP. My kids are older and we live in a house with a garden and I’m still dreading it

daisypond · 18/03/2020 14:07

My relatives are in a flat, as is common on the Continent.

Also, the BBC has just made a recent announcement about a whole new set of emergency programmes - exercising, children’s, educational, schools, church services, cooking, crafts, etc. It looks like an impressive effort.

Misty9 · 18/03/2020 14:11

My mum is in Spain and she's sent a video today of police ordering people back home... So they're not allowed out for walks.

This is the one thing where i'm lucky. I'm an introvert. My hobbies are knitting/crochet and gaming.

With netflix in addition, I'm actually not dreading it.

I am more concerned about having a job to pay for everything but not the lock down itself. And for once DH can't moan at me for them.

We also have enough food to keep us going for a month (normal stocks)

My other main concern is runnign out of tonic for my gin

SpongeCake23 · 18/03/2020 14:13

Same issue here. 17 month old in a small house with no garden. We have a tiny yard, but there’s no space to run around. We have a very deserted field across the road, with a steam and nature reserve and fully intend to make use of it if we can. We live rurally, so shouldn’t be as difficult as those of you in the cities.

Isolatingalready · 18/03/2020 14:13

I have a 4 year old and a baby and have to isolate now as my oldest has a cough. Luckily we have a garden but it’s not very big or child friendly. Struggling to be honest. The four year old is happy but I’m not! The mess is piling up but there’s no chance to clean or take any kind of break. As I understand it we can’t go outside beyond our garden because of his cough, even though it’s most probably just a cold.

Nammech111 · 18/03/2020 14:16

This is absolutely terrifying to me reading this. Ive just recently moved an hour away from my family, I travel a lot and they are very close with my daughter who is 8 months and I'm very close with all the other children., this is going to be heart breaking if we have to isolate from each other. But necessary.

Nammech111 · 18/03/2020 14:17

I'm also due back at work in 4 weeks 😢 I dont want to be around so many people.
