Lockdown - what the hell are we meant to do?

I know it's the right thing and there's no other alternative but I'm just panicking right now. I live with DP and our 4 year old in a flat in a city, we don't have a garden. DP and I both work and can continue to work from home easily but it will be such a struggle with a young child and no outside space. Will we literally not be allowed to go outside at all except for food? I am honestly freaking out right now.

Think it will be chaos for the elderly with no internet and living in areas whee you know few or none of your neighbours

Seventyone72seventy3 · 18/03/2020 18:15

True but 1) contraception was not as reliable 2) the war didn't actually effect maternal health whereas we just don't know the effects on pregnant women and their foetuses yet.

My gran, who is 80, is massively internet proficient and uses her laptop daily. She can easily do an online shop and use WhatsApp etc.

I do not know why so many elderly people are so utterly tech resistant. My gran is on her own with her husband who is completely unable to care for himself. I don't know how she would be able to manage through self isolation if she had not kept up with the times.

My MIL (65, which I wouldn't even count as elderly) point blank refuses to have a mobile phone or even learn how to turn a computer. I think it is so stupid. Really don't get it.

Bbc are doing daily educational programmes for each year group. Also podcasts. I guess find as much stuff like that to try and give yourselves chance to work.

ViciousJackdaw · 18/03/2020 18:32

I'm not expecting a baby boom - there were no contraceptive pills, coils, implants and abortion was an illegal back street matter.

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 18/03/2020 18:35

contraception was not as reliable

I currently don't have any as my appointment to discuss options was cancelled due to coronavirus. However we're on day six of isolation and I'm erring more towards killing dh than screwing him senseless.

Anyone on lockdown already - if people are allowed out for short walks/runs - what about kids? They can't go out alone can they? Are kids just not allowed out at all?

BirdandSparrow · 18/03/2020 19:08

In Spain nobody can go out for a run or a walk. Kids basically can't leave the house. Mine haven't been out since Friday afternoon. If we had a dog they could walk it I suppose, but I haven't seen any kids walking dogs.

BritWifeinUSA · 18/03/2020 19:13

We can go out for walks but we live in Avery isolated location. We have almost no neighbors. There are some beach vacation cabins here which are currently empty and some people drive to this part of the coast to walk their dogs. Not as many have been doing that lately. People in towns and cities are a lot more restricted. Seattle, for example, the streets are completely empty whereas they are normally full of people.
Our biggest risk going out for a walk always has been and still is bears, coyotes, eagles and cougars,

ScribblingMilly · 18/03/2020 19:14

I am sure we'll be able to go for a walk. I have a dog and it would be down right cruel not to. We have been distancing ourselves for two weeks already & it's actually pretty easy to stick to your own space.

BirdandSparrow · 18/03/2020 19:16

In Spain we can walk the dog, but not go out for a stroll or jogging. They have added an exception for autistic children who don't understand being confined. they're working out the details now.

Angryrant55 · 18/03/2020 19:36

Are people not exercising while queuing for groceries

NathanNathan · 18/03/2020 19:39

For people who are already in lockdown, how is it getting food?

I'm worried in big cities if loads of people get ill that good will be hard to find Sad

Seventyone72seventy3 · 18/03/2020 19:54

@NathanNathan Haven't had any problems yet, touch wood and we have been in lockdown for ages in my area.

Seventyone72seventy3 · 18/03/2020 19:56

@BritWifeinUSA Eagles attack humans? Shock

NathanNathan · 18/03/2020 20:11

Thanks @Seventyone72seventy3 that's really good to hear. Hope you're coping ok!

BirdandSparrow · 18/03/2020 20:37

Nathan in Spain, part of the state of alert measures give the government powers to ensure the shops remain supplied. There are shortages late in the day, but if you go first thing there's usually good stock levels.

darktriad · 18/03/2020 20:44

Just heard a rumour that the military are preparing for Lockdown for 2 weeks from Saturday (don't know how true it is)

daisypond · 18/03/2020 21:05

Where did you hear that?

BonfireDiva · 18/03/2020 21:24

I suppose partners who don’t live together won’t be able to see each other? Sad
