Is your cleaner still working?

otterturk · 18/03/2020 11:11

Does anyone who has a regular cleaner know what the recommendations are? No one in my household has any symptoms, nor are we vulnerable, and I would like my cleaner to continue to work if possible both for us and because this is how she earns her income. But obviously I wouldn't want her to put herself or us at risk.

Any ideas? We always go out when she's here anyway.

I imagine so, up until the point at either she becomes unwell or you start to self isolate. You can do it yourselves then.

CoronaIsComing · 18/03/2020 11:15

Not today as her child has a temperature but she hopes to be back when she can.

Peridot1 · 18/03/2020 11:20

Mine is still working. She was supposed to be going on holiday next week but it’s been cancelled so she still wants to work.

I’m going to cancel her though. But I WILL still pay her.

On one of the social distancing graphs I saw it said no unnecessary people in your house so I figure that counts. Also her DH works in retail so will be in close contact with people. Although his health is not great so not sure he will carry on.

We have painters in this week and I’m desperate for them to finish.

OneToThree · 18/03/2020 11:22

Yes. Came yesterday. No reason to not at the moment imo. I go out too when she comes.

SquigglePigs · 18/03/2020 11:23

Yes at the moment. As long as no one in her household or ours is showing any symptoms. We'll review on both sides week by week.

otterturk · 18/03/2020 11:27

Thanks, I'm taking a similar stance.

I cancelled mine today, will still pay her though.
I have a very vulnerable child who I need to absolutely limit the risk to.
And given the number of threads on here with people checking that soft play etc is still ok to visit then I don’t trust that social distancing will contain the spread as the general public are too fucking stupid to comply then no one gets past my front door that aren’t strictly necessary.

Yerroblemom1923 · 18/03/2020 11:31

My sister is a cleaner and has said to all of her clients that she's happy to continue as long as she is well and they are too. Obviously if she was ill she'd let them know. To be fair most of the houses she cleans are empty when she's there and she wears gloves so feels it's pretty low risk.

Yerroblemom1923 · 18/03/2020 11:32

And yes, to all those cancelling and still paying, that is absolutely the kindest thing to do right now. Smile

Onetickettomars · 18/03/2020 11:34

Yes, she’s coming later. We will go out for a walk whilst she’s here. It’s her livelihood

LH1987 · 18/03/2020 11:34

She cancelled yesterday, TBH Im happy with that. I was a little nervous about an outside person coming in but didn't want to take any business away from her. So she took it out of my hands.

That being said I don't think there is any reason to cancel, in fact the cleaners interaction with people in her job will be very limited.

Realitea · 18/03/2020 11:50

I’ve taken the decision to stop my cleaning work. It was bloody hard to decide because it means we have no income but I just couldn’t put my family at risk. Minimising contact with anyone is so important now

hanahsaunt · 18/03/2020 11:53

Yes at least this week. We are her only clients and out when she comes. I know that she uses gloves throughout and plans to spray every handle as she exits the house.

NoBoojustNo · 18/03/2020 11:56

I've cancelled ours but still paying them.

I was just really uneasy about having an outsider in. Yes cleaning is essential but it's not essential that it's done by someone else, we'll manage and isn't this what social distancing means anyway?

Peridot1 · 18/03/2020 12:11

@NoBoojustNo - yes I think so. We are luck in that we can easily self isolate but it does mean that we are here all day. So makes sense to me to cancel.

Also mine thinks it’s all a bit of an over reaction!

Realitea · 18/03/2020 12:47

Social distancing is exactly that - I agree NoBoojustno
I just wish I could still be paid. You’re very kind.

I have 40 at the mo. Once that’s gone, there’s nothing Shock

Wallywobbles · 18/03/2020 12:48

We've said not to come in. We pay the same every month so she'll still get her salary as such but she's panicking which is hardly surprising

GirlCalledJames · 18/03/2020 12:53

Our cleaner is very local. We have a heated outbuilding and I left the ironing and laundry there and we didn’t see each other. She also cleaned the patio.
She wanted to come so I agreed. If she had said she didn’t want to come I would have paid her.

Windyatthebeach · 18/03/2020 12:53

Cleaner here. Dc At home as one is vulnerable. As the only income I am at work today. 1 customer over 70 cancelled as self isolating. Still being paid. 1 customer got a poorly dc so not going and no pay there.
Am planning on hand washing regularly and have disinfectant to do all surfaces and anywhere hands come into contact at the houses I do.
We have no outside family so social isolation will be fine. Dh is designated shopper.. Hand gel on entry and exit of shops. Ddogs being walked as our local surroundings are like a ghost town.

Wallywobbles · 18/03/2020 14:32

No one comes in. None comes out. That's the rules here (France)

Windyatthebeach · 18/03/2020 14:36

Wallywobbles maybe change your user name to WillyWonka?

imamearcat · 18/03/2020 15:22

She came on Monday. Will leave it up to her if she comes next week but will still pay her.

LovelyBitOfSquirrelJackie · 18/03/2020 15:25

At the moment, yes.

She’s due to come tomorrow so that could change though. We are socially distancing and are not socially isolating so it should be fine for her to come. She has a key and will be able to be a min of 2 metres away from me/anyone else at all times whilst she is here.

SilverySurfer · 18/03/2020 15:36

I'm self isolating and have asked my cleaner not to come for a few weeks but I will be paying her.

murasaki · 18/03/2020 15:44

MIne came today - I did say I was working at home but not self isolating. I did go out for a couple of hours to give her some space though. I feel better in a nice clean house, and I'm sure she wants the money. Would pay her if either she or I couldn't though. For the moment.
