Hello I was just wondering if I AIBU to take my daughter swimming.
Obviously lots of things are being cancelled and closed but it says Coronavirus has been proven not to to survive in chlorinated water and she has been going on about swimming for days (shes a toddler). We would only go into the small kid pool and when I rang up the swimming centre apparently there's barely anyone there
Thoughts?? Xxxxxx

No no and no.
I'm actually amazed that people don't think the rules apply to them but we may be in total lockdown by tomorrow so selfish dicks will have to take notice and realise what's happening

I can't stay at home - I have to go out to work (as do many others)

Work is a necessity. Going to the swimming baths is not.

But you clearly think otherwise, so crack on eh?

The "rules" you are quoting are not the current rules. It is your interpretation of the rules.

swimster01 · 18/03/2020 16:19

It is actually more necessary for me to swim than it is to go to work, but then you wouldn't know that, as you are too busy judging and don't know anything about my personal circumstances.

Just been informed from a friend who is very high up in the army that we are supposedly going on lockdown within a week. Don't know how true that is but he seems pretty certain!

Emmelina · 18/03/2020 16:23

Lots of people apparently have friends in high places willing to break their strict public security laws Wink

I love that everyone on here knows a friend/friend of a friend with big information 😂 they aren’t very good at confidentiality in their jobs are they!

It really is the era of fake news, isn’t it!

Reading some of the comments here all I can say is good luck Brits, you're going to need it with the selfish pricks that seem to be around.

It might be more important for you that you swim than go to work, but on balance, I doubt very much that it is more important for the country at large that you continue to swim than that HCPs and other essential employees go to work. People have to go to work to keep the country going. People have to go to work to get an income to live on. Swimming may be hugely important for your personal wellbeing and if you feel the potential risk to others is worth is then carry on, but no matter how big a deal it is for you, in terms of where we are right now, it remains non essential social contact.

I retract my previous statement. While my son was attending swim team training, lessons and waterpolo all the while it was running the advice from Swim England today has now put an end to that so we will be following the guidance and no swimming.

@soupforbrains, THANK YOU!

Our local pool has closed.

It's not the actual pool that's the problem, it's changing rooms, toilets, showers, counters in reception area...

Really I think if the pool is still open that's massively irresponsible.
