Online shopping - vulnerable mum

My mum is very vulnerable... if she gets this, the outcome is unthinkable Sad

She has an online shop from Asda. I'm not visiting at the moment as I'm terrified of passing it on unknowingly. So she has to deal with the delivery herself.

I'm so concerned it's going to be contaminated. Has anyone seen any official line on how long this thing lasts on surfaces,? Shoukd she be washing it all? Soapy water, dettol spray? Leave and dont touch it for 72 hrs . I'm so worried about this.

As long as she washers her hands properly with soap and water after accepting the delivery, before preparing food, after preparing food (and before eating) she should be at no greater risk even if it is contaminated.
Hope that reassures you

As someone who has been treated for OCD tendancies previously this was something that I always worried about (even pre coronavirus).

But rationally, wash hands as pp has said after delivery, before and after prepping food etc and the risks are very reduced.

Thank you @Ginfilledcats...that seems good commin sense advice. I don't want to over alarm her by making extreme suggestions....washing all your shopping sounds overwhelming....but I want her to be as safe as she can. I feel so bad for her.. she's an anxious person and she's has my dad to think about who has mild dementia. Although she sounds bright and breezy, I'm concerned for her mental health as this is so intense Sad

I ordered a delivery with asda 2 weeks back- added a few extras lastnight. This morning I logged in and it says 'cancelled'. No email, text or anything. I've had to go to our local tescos at 6:30 for a mad dash to get food. No meat being put out till 8am though! Also the usual, no toilet rolls, paper towel, paracetamol, hand wash, pasta etc. Advice is to wash groceries with soap and water! I had some floor cleaning wet wipes, so just used them on the shop. No idea how much it will help, but makes me feel better, as I'm classed as a vulnerable adult!

Wash your fruit and vegetables (as you always should) and it should be fine.

The rest would be on packaging so washing hands eliminates that risk and you can hardly wash things like bread and cheese can you?
